Former NBA star Gilbert Arenas recently recalled a funny story about tricking his ex-girlfriend, Laura Govan, into returning a $400,000 engagement ring he bought her.

Arenas told Vlad TV he spent between $395,000 and $495,000 on a diamond ring just days before they fought and split up.

“So I paid, I think $395k or $495k for the real one It had big stones… it was a big stone in the middle then it had three stones on the side,” he said. “When we broke up, I’m like, ‘That was a F- ing waste of money. I want my ring back.’ So I was like, ‘How do I get my ring back?’“

The former Washington Wizards point guard put a devious plan together that involved getting back with Laura and pretending to be in a relationship with her for several months. He also had an exact replica of the ring made to the tune of $10,000 so he could swap it when the opportunity arose.

“I just got to get her back but when she comes back, I’mma have a fake one and I can switch it at any time and then that’s what I did, had the fake one created, then started hey missed you come on back and do all that stuff I just knew that I can switch it at any time and then years later and then I eventually switched it put that one in the safety deposit and then she just had the fake one,” he continued.

Gilbert Arenas Got Sued For Switching The Rings Years Later After Selling Himself Out On Social Media

Gilbert Arenas ended up swapping the original ring for the fake one and putting it in a safety deposit box, with his ex none the wiser.

He would later flash it on social media after she took him to court. She eventually tried suing him to get the ring back but was unsuccessful.

Arenas also revealed he used the money he got from selling the ring to cover lawyer fees stemming from her lawsuits.

I put I took a picture put the ring on it… I had the original ring and posted online. there was two lawsuits one was about the ring one was about child support… I used the ring money to pay for all the lawyer fees.”
