As Caitlin Clark settles into the offseason routine with the Indiana Fever, the No. 1 overall pick revealed how she looked forward to the draft festivities ending.

On April 15, Indiana selected the college basketball sensation out of Iowa in one of the most historic draft classes in recent memory.

After her first practice in Indiana, Clark spoke to the media about the relief after draft week. During her statements, the NCAA all-time scoring leader joked she was ‘excited’ for the media obligations to be over so she could get back on the court.

‘I think that’s what I was most excited for, getting all that other stuff out of the way,’ Clark shared. ‘The draft was amazing, New York City was amazing, Los Angeles was amazing, but I was excited to get here and get back to playing basketball, you know, doing my job.

Clark enters the WNBA behind back-to-back championship game appearances to close out her storied college career. Despite losing to LSU and South Carolina, respectively, in those efforts, Clark’s stardom grew tenfold during her senior year.

Unsurprisingly, she has already made waves in the WNBA before touching the court.

Clark’s entry caused a spike in Fever ticket sales and WNBA interest. At the same time, 36 of Indiana’s 40 games will be on national TV this season.

The former Hawkeye also cashed in on an eight-year deal with Nike, valued at $28million. The deal, which includes a signature shoe line, is the most lucrative sponsorship contract for a women’s basketball player.

With all of the buzz from her college career amplifying in the pros, Clark embraces the pressure and remains focused on winning with the Fever.

‘I think no matter what happens there’s going to be expectations and pressure on my shoulders and pressure on this team to be really good. That’s how you want it,’ Clark said.

‘We wouldn’t want anything else,’ she added. ‘We want people showing up to our games, people expecting us to win a lot of basketball games this year and I’m expecting myself to play really well. I don’t think it’s anything that’s ever been different for me.’
