Luke Bryan upset Katy Perry after he jabbed at a contestant

Katy Perry was offended for an American Idol contestant who was embarrassed by Luke Bryan.

Mia Matthews mixed up the lyrics of Shania Twain’s No One Needs to Know during her audition, but Katy was just going to move on and overlook it. Before Katy could weigh in on the performance, Luke jabbed: “So you met Shania and now we’ve gotten rid of the guitar… we got you moving around the stage dancing … Now I just think it’s about you getting comfortable being a bunch of different characters within country [music] and I know you may have forgotten the words a couple of times but—”

Pop star Katy was quick to intercede, though. She interrupted and said, “Nobody needed to know that! … She was acting so well. You blew her spot up!”

Katy was commending Mia’s ability to playoff mistakes which is a total asset in the music and performing world. However, she did not that it was a pretty obvious mess up for some people, saying: “Besides every Shania fan in the world, no one knows!”

Luke wasn’t afraid to hit back and point out that it was noticeable to him. Plus, the internet was clearly upset about the mishap, too, as X, formerly known as Twitter, was on fire. One wrote: “Sooo this song didn’t come out in 2004 though. Mia was not born that year. She was born in 2004. Wrong song choice for her.”

Another added: “Don’t worry, Luke. It was so obvious. Katy, EVERYONE knew she forgot the words.”

The pair’s little tiffs on the show are becoming more common after the country star mocked Katy’s performance abilities during one audition. A contestant came onto the show to perform her hit song Roar and absolutely killed it.

The judges hyped him up with Katy herself even giving him a hug. Lionel Richie chimed in: “That was a Katy Perry song that was so full of church, soul, and power. Your roaring was amazing.”

After Katy admitted that she knew about Roman and loves his work, she even said she’d need to try out some of his tricks on her tour. Luke, though, wasn’t convinced she could pull it off. “Good luck,” he laughed at her, causing the Hot N Cold singer to pretend to hit him. He cowered away with a flinch.
