Fan accounts on X – formerly Twitter – began circulating video footage from the MTV VMAs that showed the pair in what looked like a heated exchange.

Megan, 28, was shown getting primped and ready as Justin, 42, walked by.

Suddenly, the Tennessee pop star appeared to say something to the rapper that was not audible but looked as though it upset her.

She responded – again, inaudibly – and pointed a finger in his direction before getting back to what she was doing.

He walked off but fans online were eager to know more about the unexpected disagreement.

One viewer wondered: “Did Justin Timberlake say something to piss off Megan Thee Stallion? We still haven’t forgiven you for what you did to Janet Jackson. Do we have a problem?”

The post referenced the NFL Halftime performance during which Justin famously ripped off a portion of Janet’s ensemble, exposing her breast on live TV.

Someone else wrote: “We don’t know what Justin Timberlake said to Megan Thee Stallion, but we’re on her side!”

“Did Justin Timberlake say something to piss off Megan Thee Stallion?” another viewer wondered.

It appears, however, that the argument wasn’t that at all.

Sources told ET Online after the fact that the seemingly tense moment between Justin and Megan was actually lighthearted.

The father of two reportedly walked by and said, “It’s so nice to meet you,” to which she responded: “No, no. This don’t count. This don’t count. We gotta meet proper.”

Another insider told the outlet: “Meg loves Justin. She was saying, ‘No, no, no. We’ve never met before.’ It was their first time meeting and she was excited.”

Several online fans speculated that Justin commented on Megan’s situation with rapper Tory Lanez.

LEGAL DRAMA

Tory, 31, was sentenced to 10 years behind bars after shooting Megan in July 2020.

He was facing up to 23 years in prison and potential deportation back to Canada, where he’s from.

The prosecution instead sought a 13-year sentence and got just a few years shy of that.

Tory was found guilty of assault and two gun charges in December.

His defense team sought probation and residential drug treatment for the charges.

He repeatedly claimed he was innocent, even accusing Megan of “trying to frame” him.

On his album Daystar, he rapped about the shooting, saying: “I ain’t do it,” adding “Megan[‘s] people trying to frame me for a shooting.”

He also appeared to question the validity of Megan’s injuries, rapping: “How the f**k you get shot in your foot but don’t hit no bones or tendons?”

Tory was arrested in July 2020 after an argument allegedly broke out between outside a part at a private residence at about 4.30am local time and shots were fired.

Witnesses told Hollywood Life that an SUV at the scene sped off shortly after.

MEGAN’S PAIN

During an interview with Gayle King on CBS Mornings, Megan broke down in tears while recounting the shooting.

She revealed that she feared Tory would “kill her” after “shooting her in the feet.”

Megan broke down as she recalled that fateful night, which happened outside a party at Kylie Jenner’s house.

She and a friend got in an argument after the bash.

Megan explained: “I asked the driver to pull the car over, and I should’ve stayed out of the car.”

She was persuaded to get back in but said that the argument got more intense so she exited one more time.

At the time, Megan heard a man screaming: “Dance b***h.”

She recalled: “He is standing up over the window shooting and I didn’t even want to move I didn’t want to move too quick cause I’m like oh my god if I take the wrong step I don’t know if he’s going to shoot something that’s like super important.

“I don’t know if he can shoot me and kill me.”

Gayle then asked her: “Were you afraid of your life?” to which Megan replied: “I was really scared cause I had never been shot at before.”

Megan went on: “And I looked down at my feet cause the adrenaline is pumping so hard I wasn’t sure if he hit me. I can feel it but I wasn’t sure what was happening.

“And so I look down at my feet and I’m like ‘oh my god I’m really bleeding.'”

Megan spoke out about the shooting in August 2020.

Two months later, he faced charges related to the shooting.
