Jennifer Lopez’s back-up dancer exposed more than intended during the singer’s show-stopping opening performance at the American Music Awards on Sunday.

The 46-year-old kicked off proceedings by performing a lengthy and energetic dance routine to a medley of the biggest hits of the year including songs by The Weeknd and Rihanna, as well as her own hit from 15 ago, Waiting For Tonight.

But towards the end of the act, one of her dancers flashed quite a lot of cheek after her catsuit split and revealed her underwear during the very energetic show.

Eagle-eyed viewers witnessed the embarrassing moment, which was caught on camera on ABC, and social media was quickly abuzz.

Lopez’s performance was one of the many highlights of the night.

Lopez performed double duty – performing and hosting the ceremony – and managed nice costume changes.

Harry Styles added: ‘To everyone who worked with us and has supported us for the last five years, thank you all, you are brilliant to work with and we love you all. And to the fans, thank you.’

After their performance Puth stood up from the piano for a lengthy kiss with Trainor.

Ariana Grande beat Taylor Swift and Trainor to be named favourite pop/rock female artist. She collected the award from singer Paula Abdul, who won the same award in 1990.

After embracing Trainor, Grande stood at the microphone and said: ‘Eeeew, I’m crying, I owe a lot of this to my Nana who voted, she told me: ‘Ariana, I went on the computer and voted so I think you will win.’

Earlier in the show Grande performed her new single Focus for the first time.

He recalled an impromptu show his band had performed at the Bataclan in Paris, the scene of one of the terrorist attacks ten days ago.

‘Seven months later that same venue was under siege, one of a series of attacks that changed the world forever.’

He added: ‘Tonight we honour the victims of the unimaginable violence that took place in Paris and around the world.
