Everyone knows that Ellen DeGeneres is really good at pulling pranks, but it seems the host has another hidden talent up her sleeve: naming babies.

Adam Levine stopped by The Ellen DeGeneres Show on Thursday, and revealed it was actually DeGeneres who provided him with the name for his baby daughter Dusty Rose.

“I think I have a great name, and I texted Ellen and was like, ‘What do you think?’” Levine recalled of the days leading up to the Sept. 21 birth of his daughter. “She was like, ‘I hate it. I think it’s a terrible name.’ And I was like, ‘Cool, all right!”

DeGeneres did offer up some help, though, for the Maroon 5 frontman and his wife Behati Prinsloo, texting them a list of five names to consider, one of which was Dusty Rose.

“I ran it by my wife, and she was like, ‘No, I don’t like it.’ Then I brought it back to her in the eleventh hour, and I’m like, ‘Dusty’s pretty cool,’ and she’s like, ‘I love it!” Levine said. “So you basically named my kid.”

DeGeneres said she’d heard the name from a friend, who was referring to the light pink hue called dusty rose, and instantly knew she was on to something.

“Somebody said dusty rose, and I said, ‘Oh, that’s her name,’” DeGeneres said of her flash of inspiration.

Levine was on hand to promote the latest season of The Voice, which begins its live shows next week.
