While taking on an interview with The View, the question was asked by Behar after Matthews says, “As far as office, I will always measure what category I can be most useful.” It was at this point that fans believe Joy behar tried to trap McConaughey into an uncomfortable moment. She asks, “Do you think you can get elected in Texas, being anti-gun?”

Matthew fired back with the perfect response, refusing to answer. “One thing about me and politics is, to give you a direct statement right there is me playing a game I’m not interested in playing.”

Behar understood Matthew’s point of view, and understood why he didn’t answer.

The tense mood calmed down but after the break, Sunny Hostin did issue another remark. “I did want to say that I’ve done a lot of research in terms of your advocacy, and I don’t know that you’re anti-gun, I think you’re pro-gun responsibility and legislation,” Hostin said.

Fans had a lot to say about the interview moment. For the most part, there was an appreciation for the way McConaughey handled the question, and how he used his celebrity status for the greater good.

Some famous people of all walks of life are so caught up in themselves that they don’t take the time or money to help others. He is setting an excellent example of what a good human being is meant to be.”

“Loved his tone and answer here! He is a highly intelligent man and I personally think he is on the right track with his views and facts on all of this. It was nice to see him stand his ground with her. How is she still on the show?” Another fan writes.

It truly was a great moment on The View, despite the awkwardness involved. Ultimately, Whoopi Goldberg was a major part of settling things down between Behar and the special guest.

“We found out these superintendents have to fill out these grants — a lot of them are also driving the school bus, they’re the PE teacher and this grant is 50 pages and intimating, so they don’t have the expertise or the time,” Matthew revealed.

“So we’re helping with the grant wiring process. We hire grant writers to come on and go to these schools throughout the United States that need the safest schools the most — we’re helping them write the grant.”

Whoopi Goldberg did save things during the awkward exchange between Behar and McConaughey. She wisely decided to change the subject, “I have to tell you, everybody in this audience,” she announced. “Just so you know, everybody’s going home with a copy of the book.”
