“I want to give a shoutout to a teacher that I had back when dinosaurs roamed the earth,” Behar joked.

The View cohost Joy Behar got a blast from the past live on the air.

The 81-year-old closed Friday’s broadcast with a sweet nod to her former schoolteacher, whom she reunited with as he sat in the front row of the show’s studio audience.

“Before we go, I want to give a shout-out to a teacher that I had back when dinosaurs roamed the earth. His name is Bret Schlesinger, and he wrote this wonderful book, Understanding Education: Why Schools Don’t Work and How to Fix Them. Congratulations!” Behar said as the camera turned to show Schlesinger smiling in his chair.

Behar also joked about seeing her own high school picture inside Schlesinger’s book, which the show flashed onscreen as she spoke.

“What kind of hairdo is that?” Behar quipped, before revealing that Schlesinger also taught the comedian’s 68-year-old cohost and regular moderator, Whoopi Goldberg, whom Behar fills in for on Fridays. “I should mention, also, that he taught at Washington Irving High School: Whoopi Goldberg, and me!”

Elsewhere on Friday, Goldberg also dug into her past to announce the release of her upcoming memoir Bits and Pieces, which was inspired by the deaths of her mother, Emma Harris, and older brother, Clyde Johnson, after they grew up together in New York City.

The View airs weekdays at 11 a.m. ET on ABC.
