Lady Gaga did not hesitate to clap back following a cryptic Adam Levine tweet that may have been directed her way.

Lady Gaga is known for her innovative image reinventions (how can we forget her infamous meat dress at the MTV VMA’s?) and her musical versatility. Gaga – real name Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta – was just a teenager when she began making a name for herself at open mic nights. She studied at Collaborative Arts Project 21, through the New York University Tisch School of the Arts, before dropping out to pursue a career in music.

After suffering a setback when her music deal with Def Jam Recordings fell through, the following year she signed a new record deal. Lady Gaga shot to worldwide fame with her debut studio album, The Fame. The record featured chart-topping singles “Just Dance” and “Poker Face.” Gaga has now sold an estimated 170 million records. Her accolades include 13 Grammy Awards, two Golden Globe Awards, a BAFTA Award, and an Academy Award.

But Gaga’s career hasn’t been without controversy. In an interview, The Hills star Heidi Montag blamed Lady Gaga for sabotaging her music career. Gaga was also heavily criticized for having a toxic work environment after her dancers claimed her choreographer Richard “Richy” Jackson was abusive.

The “Alejandro” singer was also trolled online after her dog walker was shot and fans felt she was more concerned about getting her dog back. Gaga was also involved in a heated row online with Maroon 5 singer Adam Levine after he seemingly shaded her on Twitter…

Sharon Osbourne Once Called Lady Gaga A ‘Bully’

Sharon Osbourne once found herself feuding with Lady Gaga over her daughter Kelly Osbourne. The beef started after Sharon’s daughter Kelly claimed that she was getting bullied by the singer’s fans on social media. In an interview with Fabulous magazine, Kelly even claimed she received death threats from Gaga’s fandom the “Little Monsters.” The threats came after Kelly’s commentary on the “Shallow” singer’s attire on E!’s Fashion Police, where she served as a co-host at the time.

When Gaga finally responded in a lengthy statement she told the then 36-year-old Kelly that she had “chosen a less compassionate path” on a show which “breeds negativity.” Gaga stressed that she would have been appreciative had Kelly contacted her about the matter in private instead of giving an interview to a magazine.

Her statement read, “While I wish you had reached out to me personally, as the head of the Born This Way foundation with my mother Cynthia, we would like to respond. Every day, through my music and public voice I choose to be positive and work towards a kinder and braver world with our community of followers.” The Grammy singer went on to criticize Kelly’s role on E!’s Fashion Police and the late Joan Rivers.

“It glorifies you and Joan Rivers pointing in the camera, laughing, and making jokes about artists and celebrities as if we are zoo animals,” she added. Mama bear Sharon Osbourne was furious at Gaga’s words and responded with her famous sharp tongue.

The former America’s Got Talent judge called Gaga a “hypocrite” and a “bully” for using her platform to shed further negativity on her daughter. “You say (Kelly’s) work on E! with the Fashion Police is ‘rooted in criticism, judgment, and rating people’s beauty against one another.’ Welcome to the real world,” an angry Sharon wrote.

“Shouldn’t you be teaching your ‘little monster’ fans to respect animals and life? I am calling you a bully because you have 32 million followers hanging on your every word and you are criticizing Kelly in your open letter. Are you so desperate that you needed to make this public?”

But in October 2013, when Lady Gaga was on the road promoting her single “Do What U Want” she appeared on the track on The X Factor UK, where Sharon just so happened to be a judge. The two were seen hugging it out on live TV before Sharon shared that she had received a birthday cake for Kelly — who had just turned 29 — from Gaga, which was left in the redhead’s dressing room.

Upon hearing about the nice gesture, Kelly tweeted, “Not to be ungrateful but why would you send me a birthday cake via my MOTHER in a country half the would away? #JustSendItToMe #MakeLoveNotWar.” And just to make her feelings crystal clear she posted a picture on her Twitter page of the cake with the caption “Eat my s***.” Gaga then took to her own Twitter platform to share the following tweet, “Monsters, please just focus on the positive of tonight’s performance and do not send any hateful messages. I don’t support it. #SpreadLove.”

Adam Levine Clapped Back At Lady Gaga On Twitter

The Osbournes aren’t the only ones that Lady Gaga has had a feud with. Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine seemed to take a dig at the “Bad Romance” singer when he tweeted: “Ugh..recycling old art for a younger generation doesn’t make you an artist. It makes you an art teacher.” Levine followed it up by writing, “I unabashedly love writing and performing pop music for both myself AND everyone around me. That’s it. It doesn’t need any extra sauce.”

Believing the tweets were directed at her, Gaga snapped back the next day, writing, “uh oh guys the art police is here.” A clearly annoyed Levine later tweeted: “by the way, im NOT an artist. i sing in a band and i make music with my friends.” He then added, “while we’re at it we should call the grammar police,” apparently a reference to the fact that Gaga used the word “is” and not “are” in her tweet on Saturday regarding “the art police.”

Social media sleuths believe Levine was taking aim at Gaga’s music video “Applause” which features a number of famous works of art, including the 1957 film The Seventh Seal and Sandro Botticelli’s 1486 painting, The Birth of Venus.

Lady Gaga Has Dealt With Cruel Social Media Trolls

Being in the public eye comes with criticism, but there’s a very big difference between honest critique and trolling. CNN reports that someone made a Facebook group called “Stefani Germanotta, you will never be famous” when she was an up-and-coming artist.

“I was 19 years old, and I was working in the business, and a producer said to me, ‘Take your clothes off,'” she said (via the BBC). “I said no and I left, and they told me they were going to burn all of my music. And they didn’t stop.”
