Whoopi Goldberg has revealed the one thing she desperately wants for the third Sister Act film.

It’s the update we’ve all been waiting for, for over 20 years – the news of Sister Act 3.

In 2020, it was announced by Disney that the film had been greenlit – but will it feature all of the well-known cast we know and love?

The first of the iconic comedy series came out in 1992, with the second following in 1993, and while musical theatre fans were treated with a stage version in 2006, the question on the tip of our lips has been whether or not we’ll see the likes of Whoopi Goldberg, Maggie Smith, Wendy Makkena and Kathy Najimy take to our screens reunited again.

In an interview with Loose Women‘s Judi Love – who I would eat my right foot to have traded places with – Goldberg discussed her roles in films such as Ghost and The Colour Purple.

However, Goldberg noted ‘one of the things’ she wanted to do while on camera, when Love addressed the filming of Sister Act 3.

And it’s all to do with fellow original star Maggie Smith.

Goldberg said: “I want to let Maggie Smith know.

“[…] I’m holding the part of Mother Superior for you, because I just can’t do it with anyone but you.

“So if you need me to come over here and shoot it and do whatever we have to do, we will do whatever you want us to do, but we don’t want to do it without you Maggie.”

Goldberg is reprising her role as Deloris Van Cartier – a lounge singer who was relocated to a Californian convent for protection against her mobster boyfriend Vince LaRocca (Harvey Keitel).

Despite ruffling a fair few feathers – including those of Mother Superior (Maggie Smith) – Cartier finds her calling in the convent’s choir.

The second film then sees Cartier return to help teach music to troubled teens alongside the nuns.

It remains uncertain where the singer and nun’s adventures will take her in the next movie, but we can’t wait to see.

Goldberg explained she’s seen the script for the third movie and is ‘liking it’ and ultimately those working on the film will ‘do whatever [they] have to do’.

So, let’s all keep our fingers crossed that Smith will see Goldberg’s plea and reunite with her old cast members for what will be anticipated as being another box office, epic song-filled, feel-good hit.
