Goldberg pulled off the hilarious gag while Roberts participated in the iconic ‘View Your Deal’ segment.

Whoopi Goldberg just emerged from the annals of The View‘s backstage abyss — where the sounds of a festive, noise-making Taraji P. Henson are rumored to still ring between the studio walls — to give Julia Roberts the definitive shock of her ongoing press cycle.

The Oscar-winning actress stopped by The View Monday to promote her upcoming Netflix thriller Leave the World Behind, but of course the long-running talk show incorporated her into a holiday edition of its recurringView Your Deal segment that hawks commercial products. As the performer stumped for her favorite line of Serge Normant haircare, she described a can of hairspray as “a little wow in a can,” which apparently sounded the alarm for Goldberg.

The EGOT-winning Ghost and Sister Act star — who was not initially part of the View Your Deal segment — then mounted a memorable comedic gag when she burst out from backstage to join Roberts, Sunny Hostin, and Sara Haines on set.

“Whoopi’s here!” Haines exclaimed, just before Goldberg’s hand shot into frame to take hold of the can in Roberts’ grasp.

The camera then cut wider to show Goldberg running away from the ladies with the product in tow.

Goldberg then made her way backstage once again, shuffling past The View‘s holiday decor before she moved out of sight.

Though Roberts appeared shocked at first, she, Hostin, and Haines burst into laughter upon realizing it was Goldberg, before Hostin threw the show to a break.

The moment came after a particularly comical interview with Roberts, during which the 56-year-old joked that the show’s “mile-a-minute” questions on a wide range of topics — including the death of Matthew Perry, her role in Mystic Pizza, and the secrets to a good marriage — threw her for a loop.

The View airs weekdays at 11 a.m. ET on ABC. Watch Goldberg take the hairspray from Roberts in the video above.
