For the last two days, Whoopi Goldberg has been absent from her moderator seat on The View, with co-host Joy Behar repeatedly teasing a revelation on Monday, Oct. 16, of just where in the world Goldberg is, and what’s she doing there?

Today, Goldberg pretty much spoiled the mystery by posting an Instagram video from St. Peter’s Square in Vatican City and revealing that she’d just met Pope Francis.

The reason for the trip, apparently, is the long-in-coming Sister Act 3.

Watch the video below.

“Maybe, since you’re seeing everything, you’re figuring out what I’m doing here,” Goldberg said, “but picture Sister Act and all the nuns standing here, waiting for the Pope to come out. Maybe that’s going to happen in the new movie. You don’t know. You never know, but we are in Rome, and I am in Vatican City. What could I be doing? Why could I be here? We’ll find out.”

The seeming location-scouting is further indication that the much-talked about follow-up to 1992’s Sister Act and 1993’s Sister Act 2: Back In The Habit is finally, actually happening. Both Goldberg and producer Tyler Perry have discussed #3, which is in development at Disney for a possible landing at Disney+, but so far there’s been little evidence beyond talk.

More than a year ago, Perry said on The View, “I loved the idea of us making this happen, but the Hollywood system moves a little slower than I’d like to. We’ve got a good script. We’re off to a great start.”

Goldberg ended today’s video with, “Remember I said I was here and we’re looking at all these different things? I think I forgot to mention, I met the Pope today. It was pretty remarkable.”

No word on whether the erstwhile Sister Mary Clarence was looking for a co-star or a blessing.

The View airs weekdays at 11 a.m. on ABC.
