Chance the Rapper is getting backlash on social media after his divorce announcement from his wife, Kirsten Corley.

The criticisms were mainly directed at his actions, which now reflect poorly on his debut album, The Big Day, which he created focused on his wedding day with Corley.

Chance the Rapper, Kirsten Corley Divorce

In a joint statement announcing their divorce, Chance the Rapper and Kirsten Corley said they had decided to part ways after five years of marriage. They have been married since 2019 and share two children.

“After a period of separation, the two of us have arrived at the decision to part ways. We came to this decision amicably and with gratitude for the same time we spent together. God has blessed us with two beautiful daughters who we will continue to raise together,” they said in a statement.

In the past, Chance and Corley’s marriage has been tested. Chance infamously liked pornographic content on Twitter, which his wife has since dismissed. In 2023, a video of the rapper dancing with a woman in a racy and sexually charged way went viral on social media. His wife remained silent, offering only a vague, cryptic response.

Chance the Rapper’ The Big Day’ Inspiration

For those who do not know, Chance the Rapper’s debut album, The Big Day, was released in 2019, the same year he married Kirsten Corley.

The record famously followed Chance on his wedding day, inspired by his real-life marriage to his wife. It predominantly talked about his family life and his children.

The album was met with critical acclaim and generally positive reviews. The Guardian reviewed it as “a candid, cutesy concept album based around his wedding.” The publication gave it a four out of five-star ranking, praising it for staying attuned to its sentimental gospel-pop roots.

However, some fans felt that the concept album was amiss. Many regarded the album as a regression for Chance, finding his rap banal and his style childishly upbeat.

Now, fans are taking a field day online, criticizing him for his actions.

Chance the Rapper Ridiculed Online

On Twitter/X, a fan asked sarcastically: “So he sabotaged his career with this for nothing? Damn,” sharing The Big Day’s album cover art.

“All that for nothing? That’s rough,” another concurred.

“Chance the Rapper divorcing his wife literally makes “The Big Day,” an even worse album now. If they would’ve stayed married for life at least I could’ve brushed it off as a life long, loving album that he made for his soul mate,” another tweeted.

“Bro ain’t no way Chance The Rapper is getting divorced lmao The Big Day is somehow even funnier now,” a fan commented.
