Dan + Shay used their Playoff Pass to stop John Legend from stealing their 21-year-old Spanish-language singer on Monday’s Battles round episode of The Voice on NBC.

‘I got the playoff pass which is so crazy,’ Madison Curbelo said. ‘My hands are shaking.’

‘I called it from the beginning,’ Chance the Rapper, 30, said.

Madison from Westfield, Massachusetts battled against Kyle Schuesler, 19, from Huntington Beach, California, with them doing a bilingual version of Jason Mraz’s Lucky/ Lucky (Suerte).

Madison, of Puerto Rican descent, was excited to sing this song because she could do it in Spanish. Madison said she hoped her performance would inspire other young Spanish women.

Madison also helped Kyle, who said he only took one semester of Spanish, to also learn how to pronounce the word properly. For the performance, Madison and Kyle both played their guitars and sang to each other in both Spanish and English. The coaches gave them a standing ovation when they finished.

‘How beautiful was that,’ John, 45, said. ‘I was truly enjoying myself the entire time.’

John said he would lean toward Madison but it was so close.

‘Madison your voice is incredible. I didn’t know what you were singing but it touched my heart and that’s the main thing,’ Reba McEntire, 68, said. ‘And that’s what matters.’

Reba said she would probably go with Kyle.

‘I’m going to be super honest, both of you guys could win the entire competition,’ Chance said. ‘Neither of you should leave. I think that John is going to try to steal Kyle. If I was Dan + Shay, I would use my Playoff Pass right now.’

‘Stay out of this,’ John said.

Shay Mooney, 32, said the decision was difficult but picked Kyle as the winner of the battle. Shay was impressed that Kyle learned Spanish for his performance. Madison was saying her goodbyes when John pushed his button to Steal her, but was thwarted by Dan + Shay who used their only Playoff Pass to keep her on their team.

‘Madison you just blew us away, you are just a star,’ Shay said. ‘You have everything it takes to win this competition.’

‘Congratulations you get a week off,’ Dan Smyers, 36, said.

Team Reba contestants were the first to hit the stage. Josh Sanders, 35, from Kannapolis, North Carolina, went up against Donny Van Slee, 30 from Weeki Wachee, Florida, with them both belting out Luke Combs’ hit When It Rains It Pours. They both played their guitars when they played.

Chance the Rapper told them that they both were ‘neck and neck’ in their performance.

‘Either one you don’t lose,’ Chance said.

‘Pitch wise Josh you nailed it,’ Shay said.

Reba got emotional saying this was going to be a tough decision because she felt she really bonded with them in rehearsals.

Reba ultimately decided that Josh beat out Donny, sending him home.
