Novak Djokovic‘s split with longtime coach Goran Ivanisevic continues to remain a hot topic of discussion in tennis circles. The Serb announced their split on 27th March via a social media post drawing the curtain on their partnership of nearly six years.

He did not divulge any details on the reason for the split. Rather, he just mentioned some professional disagreements with ‘ups and downs‘ in their relationship. As the 36-year-old now prepares for the Golden Swing on the Tour, he is still without a coach.

Following the announcement, Djokovic recently made a public appearance. He was attending an event ahead of the release of the documentary on his childhood coach Nikola Pilic. As expected, he was asked about his coaching situation and split with Ivanisevic.

Djokovic was at his candid best as he clearly outlined the situation. He confirmed no hiring has been done so far by him for the role of a coach. His comments rather suggested it could be a lengthy process. He looks to be extra thoughtful which will see him play for a while without any coach.

I still don’t have a clear idea who a new coach would be, or whether there will be one at all. I’ve had coaches since I was a kid, and now I am trying to feel by myself what I need, what I feel most comfortable with. You will be informed in case someone joins the team.

said Djokovic as per Tennis Majors.

Novak Djokovic claims his separation with Goran Ivanisevic was ‘all positive’

With speculations and rumors floating in trying to find the actual reason for the split, Djokovic was quick to clear the air. He claimed that the two were exhausted with their professional ideas for each other and needed a change. Everything was done mutually and on a positive note.

Our separation has been positive, as positive as a separation can be. We have come to a point where we’ve exhausted our cooperation after almost five years. Together, we’ve written history of our sport, we have won Slams, ended seasons as number one in the world.

added Djokovic.

Nole also highlighted how the Croat stood beside him in the tough times as well. Other than doubling his Grand Slam singles title tally, Ivanisevic was also his support system during the dark days that included his deportation from Australia and controversial default from the US Open.

But we went through trials and tribulations as well – disqualification at the US Open, deportation from Australia. I will always remember that he was there for me as a person, as a human being, first and foremost, and that he brought the right set of values into our relationship. That kind of chemistry was followed by great results. I wish Goran all the best.

concluded the Serb.

This certainly clears that the World No. 1 will be without a head coach when he next returns to the Tour. He is scheduled to play in the 2024 Monte-Carlo Masters that begin on 7th April. A two-time former champ, Djokovic will need to put all of his efforts on clay this year for multiple reasons.

Carlos Alcaraz is working hard in his campaign to replace Nole at the top of the rankings and the Golden Swing will be a good time for him. Djokovic is also the defending champion at this year’s French Open and will need a big effort to retain his title, something he hasn’t done ever at the tournament.

Also with the 2024 Summer Olympics being played in Paris, tennis will be held at Roland Garros. Djokovic’s hunger for the gold medal is no more a surprise and he will do everything in his capacity to win that medal and ensure he has won every single possible title in the sport.
