After his half-decade-long partnership, Novak Djokovic announced a shocking split with the Croatian tennis coach, Goran Ivanišević. A few days after their ‘mutual’ decision, Ivanišević recently issued a massive statement about the Serb’s arch-rival, Rafael Nadal, as he also broke his ‘never say never’ rule.

The Spanish tennis star has been a force to be reckoned with on the clay court surfaces of the French Open, where he has marked a record fourteen triumphs. Nadal’s remarkable accolades at the clay Grand Slam event have now earned him plaudits from Djokovic’s former coach, as he asserted that his record will never be broken. “Never say never, but I feel two records in tennis will never be broken – Nadal’s 14 Roland Garros titles and Novak’s record for most weeks at number one.”,” Ivanišević said.

The Croatian tennis coach also talked about Djokovic’s ‘number one ranking’ feat, as he has solidified his position in the top spot on the men’s tour for a record total of 419 weeks. This is not the first time that the 52-year-old coach has issued a major assertion about the ‘King of the Clay,’ as he previously also labeled him as a ‘dangerous’ force at the Roland Garros.

“He will be dangerous in Roland Garros”- Novak Djokovic’s former coach talks about Rafael Nadal’s clay court supremacy

Back in 2023, Goran Ivanišević opened up about how he was convinced that the 22-time singles Grand Slam champion is going to make a robust comeback at the French Open after his injury woes. Further, the tennis coach also asserted that the Spaniard is going to be the ‘most dangerous’ in the clay court season, as he might also aim for the double crown in Paris, where the Olympics will also take place this season.

In an interview with Croatian media outlet Sportske Novosti, Ivanišević said, “I am convinced that Nadal will be good, he would not come back if he did not feel ready, and I am convinced that he will be dangerous in Roland Garros. He will actually be the most dangerous because nobody has been as dominant anywhere as Nadal at Roland Garros, and it is possible that in the year of the Olympic Games he will aim for the double crown in Paris.”
