The Voice Season 25 kicks off with a 4-Chair Turn for contestant Dani Stacy’s performance of Gloria Gaynor’s “I Will Survive.”

NBC’s star-making competition show The Voice is back for Season 25, and it’s bigger than ever! John Legend and Reba McEntire (that’s Queen Reba to us commoners) return to their Coach chairs once again; Chance the Rapper is back to Coach after taking Season 24 off, and the last chair (or should we say chairs?) is/are filled by the first ever Coaching duo, Dan + Shay.

Tonight, The Blinds (blind auditions) kicked off with 31-year-old Dani Stacy from Nashville Tennessee. After crossing the country, fixing two blown tires, and enduring a broken air conditioner, Dani sang the first notes of Season 25 with a smoky, powerful rendition of Gloria Gaynor’s “I Will Survive.”

Dani’s vocal stylings, hovering between and intermixing genres, won over Coach Legend first. A moment later, Chance blocked Reba and hit his buzzer. Reba turned next. It wouldn’t do her any good, but she didn’t know that yet. Finally, Dan + Shay turned, earning Dani the first Four-Chair Turn of the season.

After a few suspicious looks at her fellow Coaches, Reba presented her feedback in lieu of a pitch. “I turned around ready to talk so hard and fast, so I’m going to tell you anyway,” Reba said. “I think you’re spectacular. I can hear all kinds of genres in your voice, talent, range, tone, attitude. I’m glad you’re on The Voice. You’re going to have to put up with these guys,” Reba said, gesturing to the other Coaches.

“As you can see with a Four-Chair Turn, you had an amazing performance,” Chance said, beginning his pitch to win Dani over. “You were poised, you were ready for it, you were just so connected through the whole performance. From the jump, I was hyped at the possibility of working with you. Come get down with Team Chance.”

Coach Legend was next, and he had nothing but compliments, something Chance turned against him to comedic effect. “I heard in your voice the crackle, the tone, the razz,” John said. “It felt like you let your tone do the talking for you. People have soul who don’t sing Soul music all the time. But you have soul, that’s for sure. I would love to have you on Team Legend.”

After a final bid from Dan + Shay, Reba popped the question. Dani barely deliberated before selecting Coach Chance, who honestly seemed even more psyched about it than Dani. The competition is at the very beginning, but Team Chance has an early win and one slot in his Season 25 roster has been filled.
