The cowboy probably won’t return to a red chair any time soon — but this alum might be open to it.

Blake Shelton and John Legend were quite the dynamic duo on The Voice. When their seasons overlapped, not only did they have great banter, but they blessed us with some pretty great duets — including the time they sang “Stand by Me” outside of Legend’s Voice trailer.

After 23 seasons, Shelton left the show as a Coach in spring 2023. Legend also didn’t appear that season, but he made a triumphant return that fall for Season 24. Might we see the same thing happen for Shelton? Unfortunately, Legend says not likely.

“I don’t think Blake is coming back,” Legend told ET Online in an interview. “He is staying on the farm; he’s enjoying himself. I’ve talked to him and he’s, like, picking corn. He sent us some fresh corn from the farm; he sent us some fresh peaches from the farm, [and] we made peach cobbler. I don’t think he has any desire to come back to Hollywood and film The Voice.

Fair enough, but Legend thinks a former Coach alum very close to Shelton could return. “I feel like Gwen [Stefani, Shelton’s wife] is the only chance we have,” Legend said. Let’s keep our fingers crossed!

In any case, Legend said to ET that he stays in touch with Shelton — and many of The Voice Coach alums — through many group chats.

“We have different group chats for each combo of Coaches and then Chrissy [Teigen, Legend’s wife], Gwen, and Blake, and I have a group chat where we’re just couples talking,” he said. “We usually stay in touch with each other, and we’re friends; it’s just a good vibe with all the other Coaches.”

For Legend, The Voice always has good vibes, which is why he’s continued to return as a Coach.

”I love that we get to be surrounded by so much talent and it’s really inspiring, truthfully,” he told NBC Insider. “I learn so much from being on this show. I learn from coaching. I learn from the interaction I have with these Artists, and it’s very renewing because, you know, I’ve been making records for, like, 20 years now and to be around Artists that have that hunger and that excitement is very renewing for me, and I love that experience.”
