Justin Timberlake’s latest era didn’t go as well as he had hoped. His recent album Everything I Thought It Was underperformed, and the set only produced one successful single, at least so far. Thankfully for the singer, that one single is still reaching new audiences, and now it’s become an important hit for him.

On this week’s edition of the Pop Airplay chart, Timberlake’s “Selfish” breaks into the top 10. The tune is new to the top region on the ranking of the tracks that rack up the largest number of audience impressions across all reporting pop radio stations in the country.

“Selfish” barely moves, but its two-spot forward surge is a notable one. The single sat at No. 11 on last week’s Pop Airplay chart, and now it’s up to a new peak of No. 9.

Billboard notes that “Selfish” is Timberlake’s first new top 10 hit on the Pop Airplay chart in more than half a decade. He last pushed a tune into the region for the first time in 2016. That year, his smash “Can’t Stop The Feeling!” soared to the summit.

“Selfish” is Timberlake’s nineteenth top 10 hit on the Pop Airplay ranking. That sum includes eight No. 1s. He’s placed a total of 33 tunes somewhere on the list, with more than half of them finding their way into the top 10.

Timberlake’s career total rises significantly when including his work with NSYNC. The boy band that made him a household name landed nine top 10 hits on the Pop Airplay chart throughout their years together. Just two of those rose all the way to No. 1.

“Selfish” was selected as the first single from Timberlake’s Everything I Thought It Was. The track only peaked at No. 19 on the Hot 100, which was something of a disappointment for his first proper single in years. The album itself topped out at No. 4 on the Billboard 200, which is also lower than some would have expected early on in the title’s campaign.
