Iga Swiatek vs Aryna Sabalenka: Match Preview

Polish tennis ace and World No. 1 Iga Swiatek has continued her fine form as the 22-year-old has made it to her third WTA 1000 final this year. Swiatek has a 100% win record in a final this year as she won the titles in Doha and Indian Wells. Now, she is tasked with replicating her success in Madrid.

The Polish tennis star has dropped only one set on her way to the final. Swiatek lost the opening set during her quarterfinal match against Beatriz Haddad Maia. However, she made a roaring comeback and won the match in three sets. Now, she will be up against an upbeat Aryna Sabalenka who is hungry for another title in Madrid.

The Belarusian tennis ace has not won anything since her Australian Open title win and is desperate for a trophy. Sabalenka has not been as dominant as Swiatek as the 25-year-old has lost as many as three sets. Sabalenka also had to play a tiebreaker against Elena Rybakina in the semifinal. Nevertheless, having won two titles in Madrid will push for her case in the final.

Iga Swiatek vs Aryna Sabalenka: Match Prediction

Both Swiatek and Sabalenka have played good tennis so far. The two players are right behind each other in the WTA rankings which makes this match even more interesting.

While Iga Swiatek has been phenomenal in asserting her dominance over the opponents, Sabalenka has held her ground firm despite being pushed to the limits. The Belarusian is high on confidence after pushing through to the final. However, the head-to-head record between the two players is skewed in Swiatek’s favor (6-3).

Even on clay, Swiatek has managed to beat Sabalenka thrice in four face-offs. The only win for the Belarusian came at last year’s Madrid Open final. Hence, Swiatek seems to have an edge going into the big clash. Also, Sabalenka has not been in great form after her Australian Open win. So, she might break when pitted against a tough opponent in Swiatek.

Match prediction: Iga Swiatek to win in three sets.
