Serena Williams’s former coach Rick Macci has asserted that “we are not seeing an end” to Novak Djokovic’s domination as he made a Grand Slam prediction.

The legendary coach does not feel Djokovic will match his incredible 2023 season this year, but feels the Serbian’s level at his age is “unprecedented” and the reason why he is the GOAT.

Djokovic, who will turn 37 next month, won three of the Grand Slam events last year, while he was also narrowly beaten by Carlos Alcaraz in the Wimbledon final. This was the fourth time in his career where he claimed three majors in a season after 2011, 2015 and 2021.

The 24-time Grand Slam champion also secured the ATP Finals crown and two Masters 1000 titles as he won seven of the 12 tournaments he played. He ended 2023 as the ATP year-end No 1 for a record-extending eighth time.

Djokovic has not yet hit the same heights in 2024 as he has compiled an 11-4 record from his four events including the United Cup.

The Serbian is yet to reach a final this year, having lost in the semi-finals at the Australian Open and in Monte Carlo, while he fell in the third round in Indian Wells.

Macci recognised Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner are serious challengers to Djokovic, but argued the tennis great will win “a few more” major titles.

“No, we are not seeing an end to his domination. He might not be as dominant because last year he won three out of the four Grand Slams and he lost in five sets to Alcaraz at Wimbledon after winning the first set 6-1,” the American told Sportskeeda.

“Is he gonna do what he did in 2023? I don’t think so. Is he gonna be as dominant? No. Can he still be one of the best players in the world? Yes. Will he still win Grand Slams? Absolutely.

“People don’t realise what he is doing at age 36 is unprecedented. He is still dominating to some degree. At that age, we have never seen anything like this. That’s why he is the GOAT.

“But, listen, at the end of the day, father time is undefeated. You got the new sheriff in town: Alcaraz, Sinner.

“These guys know they can beat him, but ‘Djoker’ is not going anywhere and I can still see him winning a few more Grand Slams before he says it’s all over with.”
