Novak Djokovic has a close and profound relationship with the Principality of Monaco, where he has made his home. His connections to this charming community on the French Riviera are more evident than ever as he prepares to compete in the renowned Monte Carlo tournament. During an interview, he revealed his deep connection to the place that goes beyond his professional interests.

After having a rocky start to the season, Djokovic is all set to show his prowess in the clay court campaign at the Monte Carlo Masters. But before he hits the court, the Serbian opens up about the special connection that he has always felt about playing on this ground.

Novak Djokovic feels like “home” in Monte Carlo

Novak Djokovic has been the Monte Carlo champion twice, in 2013 and 2015. Despite failing to make it past the quarterfinals in seven of his visits since 2015, the 36-year-old still finds enjoyment in competing in the tournament. The fact that Djokovic’s two children, Stefan and Tara Djokovic, were born in Monaco is one of the most remarkable aspects of his relationship with the prestigious principality.

The 24-Grand Slam Champion revealed his bond with the tournament before his upcoming match. “A feeling of home environment. Both of my children are born here. And I have been calling this place my residential home for almost well more than 15 years.” Djokovic traveled to the event site following a quick trip to Belgrade. And now he is ready to kick off the tournament on his home ground

“So it is amazing to be back here playing in a tournament that is played in a club where I have spent countless hours of training. I know the ground people. I know everybody in the management of the club,” he further added. Although he has had a love-hate relationship with the Monte Carlo tournament in the recent past, it has never ceased to be his favorite ground to play in.

This is the first time he will play after his third-round exit from the Indian Wells. Also, his appearance on the court will be marked as his first following his split from longtime coach Goran Ivanisevic. Nevertheless, Novak Djokovic managed to find enjoyment in Monaco before the tournament, despite the pressure.

Djokovic’s fun-filled family time in Monaco

During his visit to the Stade Louis II, Novak Djoković shared some personal moments from his family life on Instagram. In the video, Djokovic was seen taking long jumps and racing on the track. He was accompanied by his wife, Jelena Djokovic, and the couple’s son and daughter joined in on a delightful moment as well. The video was captioned, “Family power like no other⚡️❤️”.

Furthermore, a Capoeira duel between his six-year-old daughter and him also caught the attention of his fans worldwide. There’s no denying that Djokovic’s presence in Monaco has improved the principality’s prestige. Fans are now excited to see him play in the clay-court season once again.
