Novak Djokovic will be making his return to Monte Carlo Masters after confirming the same with an official update on his website. Djokovic, who had earlier withdrawn from the Miami Open after a disappointing Indian Wells campaign, would be seeking redemption in the European clay tournament.

The 36-year-old had it all going his way recently until Jannik Sinner put the brakes on the surging Serb at the 2024 Australian Open. Returning to Melbourne where he had won the Australian Open a record 10 times was a big boost to the tennis legend. However, his excitement didn’t go all the way, as Jannik Sinner outclassed him in a 6-1, 6-2, 6-7(6), 6-3 defeat in the semi-finals.

His shock loss led him to withdraw from the Dubai Tennis Championship stating that he needed time with his family. After six weeks away, he returned to Indian Wells seeking to put his poor start to the season behind, but that didn’t go as planned. He succumbed to a shocking loss against World No.123 Luca Nardi in the third round.

He then withdrew from the Miami Open with no points to defend and was spotted among the 18,000 spectators in the Crypto.com stadium to watch the NBA match between Los Angeles Lakers and Golden State Warriors. He had a great time exchanging jerseys with Stephen Curry and Lebron James.

The Serb’s vacation will soon end as he is set to make his return to the Monte Carlo clay Masters as the European swing begins in April. The Monte Carlo tournament starts on April 6 through to the 14th.

Novak Djokovic last went past the Monte Carlo quarterfinals in 2015

Novak Djokovic has failed to make it beyond the Monte Carlo Masters’ quarterfinals stage since 2015. The Serbian, who won the European Masters in 2013 and 2015 was beaten by Daniil Medvedev in 2019, when he last reached the last eight of the tournament.

In 2021, after the Serbian had refused to take the COVID-19 vaccine and could only compete at the Dubai Tennis championship, he lost to Dan Evans in the Round of 16. The following year, as the vaccination controversy continued, he exited in the second round of the competition, this time losing to Alejandro Davidovich Fokina.

Last year, Lorenzo Musetti shocked the Serbian by winning 4-6, 7-5, 6-4. A defeat that Djokovic labeled terrible in his press conference.
