Thursday marks a special day for an Oklahoma country music legend.

Reba McEntire celebrates her 69th birthday.

She was born on March 28, 1955, and grew up on a family ranch in Chockie in Atoka County.

According to the Oklahoma Historical Society, early performances of McEntire were with the Kiowa High School Cowboy Band and the family trio, the Singing McEntires.

She then made her first recording, which was about her grandfather, in 1971 titled “The Ballad of John McEntire”

Her first major label recording was “I Don’t Want to Be a One-Night Stand” in 1976.

McEntire’s first number-one song, “Can’t Even Get the Blues” was released in 1983, and she has since gone on to receive multiple music awards for multiple albums.

In 2023, McEntire opened up Reba’s Place, a restaurant, bar, and live music venue in Atoka.
