Serbian tennis ace Novak Djokovic is known for his bitter relations with the crowd and it was no different in Monte Carlo. As the 36-year-old locked horns with Casper Ruud in the semifinal, he was faced by a heckler and Djokovic looked in no mood to take any of it. The Serbian was heard cussing at the heckler as he missed a serve.

The incident took place when Djokovic was serving during the eighth game of the third set. As the Serbian was trailing 3-4, he was already irritated. Djokovic had won the first point of the eighth game, but Ruud soon made a comeback as the Serbian erred while returning a shot.

Nole then instantly turned back and started cussing at someone in the crowd which gave the impression that he was distracted by the constant heckling. Djokovic was heard shouting “Shut the f**k up” and then uttering a few words in his mother tongue.

The video of the incident soon went viral on social media. While one tennis fan declared that Djokovic deserved to lose after this behavior, a Djokovic fan said that they enjoyed it when the 36-year-old stood up for himself.

Novak Djokovic accepts it is not easy to take an L

As Novak Djokovic went on to lose the match in three sets (4-6, 6-1, 4-6) despite coming into the game with the head-to-head record entirely in his favor, the Serbian expressed his disappointment. The 24-time Grand Slam champion accepted that it is not easy to take an L.

Soon after the loss, Djokovic took to X to express his feelings. The Serbian said that it is easy to take a defeat but he also lauded Casper Ruud for a brilliant game of tennis. Djokovic then talked about moving onwards.

Never easy to take the L. Well done Casper. Onwards…

Novak Djokovic posted on X after his defeat in Monte Carlo.

Notably, with this defeat, Djokovic’s wait for a title this season has extended further. Out of the three tour-level tournaments played this year, Djokovic has not been able to win a single title. While he bowed out of the Australian Open after a defeat in the semifinal, the Serbian suffered a third-round exit in Indian Wells.
