Russian youngster Maria Timofeeva has been struggling for form since reaching the fourth round of the Australian Open. Things may have gotten worse for the 20-year-old as she reveals how she was robbed in Madrid while competing at the top-tier clay tournament.

Timofeeva began as a qualifier at the Madrid Open. She defeated French Fiona Ferro in the first qualifier before losing to Brit Harriet Dart in the second qualifier. However, while still in Madrid, she has been robbed of a little more than €10,000 ($10,688). For, the WTA No.99 is freaking out as she has over $180,000 career prize money to boast of.

In fact, her career prize money only got to the amount aforementioned after the Russian shocked the tennis world by winning the WTA 125 Budapest Tennis Grand Prix at just 19. This year, despite a good start in January she has won only eight matches this season and crashed out in the first round or qualifying round of five tournaments.

Getting robbed of the little she has earned, Timofeeva called on fans to share the information in a video. She also, explained how it happened and that it wasn’t the first time it was happening to her in the Spanish capital.

So, apparently in the past few days I'm here in Madrid. Someone has been spending money from my bank account and spent nearly a little more than 10,000 euros and I'm freaking out because I don't know how it would happen because physically my card was with me most of the times except for one episode when I left my room while the room was being cleaned by maids of the hotel.

Mario Timofeeva shared on her social media

The purchases were made in Spain, in Madrid, around this area and normally for the online purchase you need a confirmation code, which is normally coming to my phone, which didn't happen. Yeah, I don't know what else to tell the circumstances are crazy and I don't know how it could happen.

Mario Timofeeva added

Timofeeva earned only $6,524 for winning the first round of qualifiers. She would have earned another $12,580 if she hadn’t lost to Harriet Dart in the second Qualifiers.

Maria Timofeeva’s run of poor results continue

Maria Timofeeva has failed to win more than four matches since her great run of results in January. The Russian youngster reached the fourth round in Melbourne defeating Caroline Wozniacki and Brazilian Beatriz Haddad Mia.

She eventually lost to Ukrainian Marta Kostyuk but won six consecutive games beginning in the qualifying round. Last two weeks she crashed out in the first round of the Copa Colsenitas despite being among the Top 10 seed.
