Chrissy Teigen and John Legend enjoy marking life’s special moments in different ways.

The model and cookbook author, 37, prefers to celebrate on a smaller scale, while her husband, 44, likes to go big.

“It means more [to me] to have a quiet night — but John loves a party. Bless him. God, he loves a party. He loves a date night and he loves a party,” she told PEOPLE of the couple’s recent vow renewal while at the Celebrity ‘Server for an Hour’ event at Gracias Madre in Los Angeles on Thursday.

The model revealed that she was initially set against the idea of doing the ceremony, which was held earlier this month at Villa Pizzo in Lake Como, Italy. “I didn’t want it to be a vow renewal. I come from the world of Real Housewives, and a vow renewal is the kiss of death,” the model explained, adding that she was eventually swayed. “I was like, ‘Let’s kiss it. Let’s do it.'”

As it turned out, Teigen loved every moment of the vow renewal, adding that the experience was “way more emotional than I expected.”

“It was really special. I just feel so lucky and so blessed and in all the corniest of terms. It was so sweet and amazing,” she said of exchanging vows with Legend in the very same place where the pair first said “I do” a decade ago.

As for whether she and the “Love Me Now” singer plan to do it all over again 10 years from now, Teigen joked, “My business accountant says that I can do it every 25 years.”

“But no, I would, but you want to make it special, too,” she continued. “And I really don’t like celebrations, whether it’s my birthday or anything. But I do love gratitude and I love thanking the people who have been there for the past 17 years of our relationship. To me, that was everything.”

While the couple marked their milestone wedding anniversary in a lavish way, they forgot one small detail: exchanging gifts. “It didn’t even cross our minds. I think the event in itself was the gift.”

Shortly after Teigen and Legend welcomed their friends and family to Villa Pizzo for the vow renewal, a Teigen source told PEOPLE the event was “magical.”

“Everything was perfect! Chrissy was the happiest,” the source said. “They treated their friends and family to the best weekend.”

According to another insider, the couple arrived at the venue by boat and then came out onto the villa’s balcony to greet their guests. “[John] also held a brief speech later, after the dinner,” the insider added.

“There was dancing and a lakeside bar that was a big favorite,” the source added. “It’s been a very elegant, very classic event.”

The couple complemented each other perfectly in black-and-white looks for the occasion. Chrissy wore a floor-length Zuhair Murad gown featuring off-the-shoulder sleeves and a train, while Legend donned a white tuxedo jacket with black lapels and black pants.

After returning home to California following the vow renewal, Teigen reflected on all of the special moments she shared with her family and other loved ones throughout the weekend-long celebration.

“I have so many things to share from this insanely perfect and emotional weekend but I still have not been able to put all my thoughts together,” she captioned an Instagram photo carousel of her family enjoying time together in Italy.

“All I can muster up right now is that I am so grateful for our friends, our family and our lives. 💗,” she added.
