Almost a decade ago, Rihanna became the first Black woman spokesmodel for the French label.

Rihanna channeled one of Dior‘s most iconic silhouettes on Monday while attending the French label’s spring 2024 couture show in Paris.

The pop star and makeup mogul wore a black moiré wrap jacket and pencil skirt by Dior, the silhouette of which evoked the designer’s game-changing New Look, known for its tailored waistline and exaggerated hips. Rihanna added on a matching cap and white pumps featuring embellished ankle straps, while her leather accessories included a thin belt, gloves and an all-black Lady Dior handbag.

Rihanna has been a front-row fixture at Dior since the mid-2010s, wearing several of Raf Simons’ designs for the house at movie premieres and Paris Fashion Week. She’s also favored vintage Dior looks, having been photographed in ’90s and ’00s pieces as recently as 2022.

During Simons’ tenure, Rihanna became the first Black woman spokesmodel for Dior, fronting a series of videos and print ads for the brand’s “Secret Garden” campaign in 2015. Once Maria Grazia Chiuri took the helm in 2016, Rihanna collaborated with Dior on a collection of sunglasses inspired by “Star Trek.”

“I started by looking through all the archives to see what they’ve done in the past, then got acquainted with all the new materials,” Rihanna told WWD of her design process at the time. “I literally sat there and drew and drew until I was happy with the design, and the team illustrated it for me right then and there. We picked materials and colors that same day, and after that it was a matter of weeks before I saw the first prototype.”

Other stars in attendance at Maria Grazia Chiuri’s latest presentation included Anya Taylor-Joy, supermodel Carla Bruni and “The Crown” actress Elizabeth Debicki, who recently won her first major awards for Netflix’s hit historical drama.

Dior himself is set to be the subject of a new Apple TV+ series. The legendary designer, along with contemporaries Coco Chanel, Pierre Balmain and Cristóbal Balenciaga, will be profiled in “The New Look,” which debuts in February. The show’s ensemble cast features Ben Mendelsohn as Dior, Juliette Binoche as Chanel, Maisie Williams as Catherine Dior and John Malkovich as Lucien Lelong.
