Rihanna voices Smurfette in ‘The Smurfs’: My job is to work as hard as possible

Pregnant with her and A$AP Rocky’s second child – made a surprise appearance at Paramount Pictures’ CinemaCon presentation in Las Vegas recently.

 

 

 

 

At the event, Rihanna revealed that she will be voicing the character Smurfette in the movie  The Smurfs  to be released in February 2025.

The owner of the hit song Diamonds joked: “I tried to get the role of Papa Smurf but it didn’t work out.”

Based on the comics by Belgian artist Peyo, the tribe of little blue creatures was previously given a modern film franchise at Sony Pictures and kicked off more than a decade ago.

Director Raja Gosnell (“Scooby-Doo”) has made two live-action crossover movies starring Neil Patrick Harris. Julia Roberts, Katy Perry, Hank Azaria and Joe Manganiello voiced the characters in the film.

Rihanna will also produce the new film – directed by Chris Miller and Matt Landon – and perform original songs in the film.

Other producers include Ryan Harris, Laurence ‘Jay’ Brown and Tyran ‘Ty-Ty’ Smith, while Pam Brady has written a script inspired by Peyo’s characters and work.

Pop star Katy Perry previously voiced Smurfette in 2011’s The Smurfs and its sequel The Smurfs 2 (2013), while singer Demi Lovato, voiced the character. in the movie Smurfs: The Lost Village (Smurfs: The Lost Village – 2017).

 

The last three films were all produced by Sony, but the upcoming film will be the first in a series from Paramount Pictures.

 

 

 

Rihanna previously lent her voice to DreamWorks’ animated film Home, which grossed more than $380 million at the worldwide box office.

She also acted in the films Battleship, This Is the End, Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets, Ocean’s 8 and Guava Island.

Rihanna once  admitted that one day she wants to win an Oscar.

When asked if it was on his list of goals, the superstar replied:

“I work hard and give my best in everything I do but the rest is not up to me.

I don’t think anyone makes an album thinking only about winning a Grammy, or making a movie thinking only about winning an Oscar.

My job is to work as hard as possible and if an award follows, then that’s great.”
