Taylor Swift’s spokesperson responded to fierce criticism aimed at the singer after she led the list of celebrities owning private planes that emit the highest amount of Carbon Dioxide (CO2) from the beginning of 2022 to now. She was called a “climate criminal” by public opinion because of this.

 

 

A study from British digital marketing company Yard based on analysis of private flights found that Taylor Swift’s private jet emits nearly 8,300 tons of CO2. She leads the list of celebrities owning private planes that emit the highest amount of CO2 from the beginning of the year until now.

Taylor Swift’s private plane made 170 flights, with an average flight time of 80 minutes, an average flight distance of more than 139 miles/flight. Flights made by Taylor Swift’s private plane emitted nearly 8,300 tons of CO2, more than 1,184 times the total annual CO2 emissions of the average person.

Faced with public criticism, especially when being called a “climate criminal”, Taylor Swift’s representative responded. “Taylor Swift regularly lends her private plane to others. It is incorrect to attribute almost all of the above flights to her” – the representative told Rolling Stone.

Taylor Swift has often remained silent on political and social issues for most of her career. However, in recent years, she has spoken out more about issues related to the environment and climate. In a 2020 interview with Variety, the singer said climate change is one of the issues she cares about.

In the list above, next to Taylor Swift is boxing star Floyd Mayweather with 177 flights and emitting more than 7,000 tons of CO2. Some names in the top 10 include: Jay-z, Blake Shelton, Steven Spielberg, Kim Kardashian, Mark Wahlberg, Oprah Winfrey….
