Caleb Williams compares his size to Aaron Rodgers hours after declining medical examinations with teams at the NFL Combine

Chicago Bears are favorite to draft him, given they have the No. 1 draft pick option.

Ever since Caleb Williams’ odds of being the No. 1 pick in the upcoming NFL Drafts heightened, there’s one thing proved: The 22-year-old does not lack confidence.

Also, earlier his coach Lincoln Riley used to shield him away from press conferences. But now as he’s declared for the 2024 NFL Draft, he seems to be a lot more than his on-field personality. Recently, he had an interesting, albeit brief press conference, where he answered questions from the news reporters, during the NFL scouting combine in Indianapolis.

When asked about his height, the USC star quarterback made an interesting comparison with future Hall of Famer Aaron Rodgers. He said:

It’s the first time I’m hearing about my height and size. I’m around Aaron Rodgers size and maybe weight too. I’m about 215-220 and 6’1”-6’2.

But that’s not the only thing highlighting Williams at the Combine! Just hours before this press conference with the reporters, the 2022 Heisman Trophy champion had declined medical examination and became the first college football player ever to do so.

He stated that he would do the medical examination only with the teams interested in him during the pre-draft process to ensure a smooth journey forward. As for now, the Chicago Bears are favorite to draft him, given they have the No. 1 draft pick option and a quarterback situation in hand.

Caleb Williams’ decision reflects changing landscape of pre-draft process

The USC Trojans’ star quarterback’s decision to dodge the medical examination despite attending the Scouting Combine event raised a bootload of eyebrows toward him. However, despite that it reflects the evolving pre-draft process dynamics. There has been a lot of pressure upon the shoulders of the NFL to make the pre-draft process more player-friendly.

And Williams picking not to do something, which has never been disobeyed by any player, stands as proof of the player’s autonomy in the pre-draft process.

The young quarterback is handling the whole pre-draft process on his terms, given he is entering the upcoming draft without an agent negotiating on his behalf. He is keeping several teams at the prospect to make sure when he enters the NFL, his story will always be remembered.
