“Challenged accepted!” Cam Newton agrees to Skip Bayless’ challenge to beat him in three-point shooting, vows to never speak against a reporter if he loses

The dispute began when Cam Newton called out Skip Bayless for calling a block made by Anthony Edwards an easy one.

The friction between athletes and hosts of sports talk shows has been on the rise in recent times. The former criticize the latter over their criticism of the respective sport, despite having no professional experience. Recently, Cam Newton and Skip Bayless got into a beef after the latter dubbed a remarkable block by Anthony Edwards as an easy one.

Anthony Edwards had a game-winning block against the Indiana Pacers when he flew to prevent Aaron Nesmith‘s layup from getting into the rim. In this process, Edwards hit his head against the backboard. Skip Bayless, who called this play as “the easiest block” Edwards might have received. Newton was not too happy about this and called the analyst out by asking him to do it and prove it if it were indeed that easy.

Bayless responded to Cam Newton‘s statement on The Skip Bayless Show. He challenged him to a three-point HORSE shootout contest. The analyst dared him to never speak publicly about shooting a basketball if managed to beat Newton in the contest.

Cam Newton is done with non-athletes passing on ridiculous takes

The former NFL QB was quick to respond to Bayless, and he took him up on his challenge.

Skip, challenge accepted. You challenged me in a three-point shootout in order for me to not ever speak on a reporter that has never played the game? Challenge accepted. It is so funny how so many people say, ‘athletes with all these podcasts, they need to sit down and hush’, it’s funny, now the main people saying hush to the podcasts got their own podcasts.

Newton said in a video shared via his X account

He accepted Bayless’ challenge to go toe-to-toe in a three-point contest. Cam Newton agreed to never speak against a reporter who has not played in a professional capacity if he lost the shootout.

The interesting part is he proceeds to take a jibe at Skip towards the end when he brings up the topic of the old-school media critiquing athletes these days who opt to connect with their fans and share their opinions via their podcasts.

But since Skip Bayless made these claims on his own podcast, Newton believes this is a rather ironic turn of events. The former NFL QB asked the analyst to reach out to him with the details to set it up. Now the ball is in Skip Bayless’ court. Will he make it happen or will he attempt to brush it under the rug? That remains to be seen.
