Chiefs’ Travis Kelce curses out Ravens’ Justin Tucker for pregame incident

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and Baltimore Ravens kicker Justin Tucker had different interpretations of Sunday’s pregame incident between the pair, as well as Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, ahead of the AFC Championship Game.

Tucker said Monday that he was ready to move past the event, which saw both Mahomes and Kelce toss aside the kicker’s equipment during warmups. The incident occurred near the end zone as the two-time MVP signal-caller was attempting to get some practice throws in, but the Pro Bowl’s equipment and ball holder were evidently in the way.

According to Tucker, Mahomes asked him to move his helmet, which he “happily” did. Mahomes said Tuesday, however, that Tucker barely moved the item and that’s when his favorite pass-catcher took over.

Mahomes said that he thinks Tucker “does that little stuff” to “try to get under our skin.”

Kelce was far more aggressive with his criticism of Baltimore’s five-time first-team All-Pro, using some colorful language to describe his rival.

“But, it’s always — if you’re trying to go onto the other team’s designated area, you kind of stay out of their way. You know? You don’t interfere with what they have going on,” the future Hall of Famer said on Wednesday’s episode of his “New Heights” podcast. “That’s the unwritten rule. If you want to be a f—ing d— about it, you keep your helmet and your football, and your f—ing kicking tee right where the quarterbacks are warming up. And they’re dropping, eyes are looking left and they’ve got a helmet down by their feet.”

The nine-time Pro Bowler added that the Ravens kicker was “kind of winking at (him), being a d— about it, trying to get under the skin.”

The tight end’s brother, Philadelphia Eagles star center Jason Kelce, co-hosts “New Heights” and added that Tucker “knows how to poke the buttons,” but this time it backfired.

Kelce and Mahomes not only bested Tucker and the Ravens 17-10 to advance to Super Bowl LVIII, but the pair of Kansas City stars had huge performances. Mahomes went 30-for-39 for 241 passing yards, one touchdown and no interceptions, while Kelce finished the contest with game highs in targets (11), receptions (11) and receiving yards (116), adding one touchdown and a five-yard rushing attempt.

The 34-year-old also broke San Francisco 49ers Hall of Fame wide receiver Jerry Rice’s record for the most postseason receptions when he secured the 152nd catch of his playoff career.

“I get it. But me and Pat? We’ve been having the same mentality for this game all week long, man. And it was a, you’ve got to go in there and have the right mind frame, right mindset, and we just weren’t in a joking mood. We were ready to get after it,” Kelce said. “So, Justin, sorry if we took it to a level that you didn’t think it’d get to that way, but if you’re going to be a d—, I promise you, I can one up you every time, dude.”
