Cowboys boss Jerry Jones QUASHES all rumors after Trey Lance’s trade by declaring Dak Prescott will be with the team for a ‘long time’

Jones traded for Lance without consulting Prescott and head coach McCarthy.

The Dallas Cowboys traded for QB Trey Lance last month. That created a lot of buzz around the NFL world. They acquired Lance from their arch rivals the San Francisco 49ers. Jerry Jones, the owner of the Cowboys made the trade without consulting his starting QB Dak Prescott and his head coach Mike McCarthy.

The signing of Trey Lance will put pressure on Prescott to perform. He had a terrible season last year, leading the league with 15 interceptions and a subpar QBR of 91.1. Jones recently appeared on 105.3 The Fan and talked about this. He expects Prescott to be a Cowboy for a long time to come.

“We expect Dak to be with us a long time,” Jones reiterated on the 105.3 The Fan radio. The Cowboys have signed cornerback Trevon Diggs, safety Malik Hooker and RT Terence Steele to extensions as well as reworked the contract of right guard Zack Martin since the training camp began. They would like to do the same with Prescott. His deal expires after 2024.

Lance was drafted third overall in the 2021 NFL Draft by the 49ers. The Niners gave up three first-round picks to get him. The trade did not go well for the team and they ended up trading Lance to the Cowboys after a poor preseason this year. The Cowboys will begin their season against the New York Giants on September 10.

Where will the Dallas Cowboys finish this season?

Dak Prescott

The Dallas Cowboys almost always have the collective eyes of the NFL world on them. They are expected to be in the postseason every year. This year is no different as the overall roster of the Cowboys is great and they have some young exciting players that can make a difference in a game.

The biggest question facing the Cowboys is the form of quarterback Dak Prescott. He had a poor 2022 season and will have to bounce back and have a great season this year for the Cowboys to make the playoffs. They have a great defense with young superstar Micah Parsons the early favorite to win the Defensive Player of the Year.

The Cowboys have made the playoffs four times with Prescott, but have failed to reach the Super Bowl once. So there will be pressure on Prescott as well as the Cowboys to deliver on their promise and make a deep playoff run. They begin their campaign against the New York Giants at the MetLife Stadium on Sunday.
