Cowboys HC Mike McCarthy ASSERTS he has no interest in being a ‘guru coach’ indicating alleged rift in context to Dak Prescott’s growth

Dak Prescott may reach his full potential if Mike McCarthy implements his new offensive tweaks effectively.

Being a coach is not an easy job, as one has to constantly produce results, even though they are displaying their mastery from the backdrop and the touchlines. However, a competent coach knows how to dictate play like a conductor, and Mike McCarthy is one such individual.

Despite being heavily scrutinized during his three-year spell as the Dallas Cowboys coach, McCarthy remains steadfast and adamant about his abilities to lead them to glory. However, the promised land looks far away for now, despite having two back-to-back good seasons.

With McCarthy calling plays for the first time in his tenure with the Cowboys, one player who seems to have benefited from the new offense is Dak Prescott. Talking to Atheltic’s Jon Machota, McCarthy had only praises for the quarterback, highlighting how well he has adapted to the new offense.

“I love the way we’ve challenged Dak,” said McCarthy, “but more importantly, I love the way he’s attacked and handled these changes and adjustments. McCarthy added that owning the offence is the sole way for the team surge forward in their pursuit for gold. “The only way to get there is to make them own the offense. He has the personality. This is our first year playing the way we want to play, and he’s done a really good job.”

McCarthy has played a crucial role in Prescott’s growth. However, he doesn’t wish to be seen as a ‘quarterback guru.’ He said, “I have no interest in being known as some guru coach; I want smart, Hall of Fame-type quarterbacks.”

While Mike McCarthy wants everyone to believe that he is not a “quarterback guru,”  his past description from Bleacher Report’s Tyler Dunne suggests otherwise. One Packers player confirmed McCarthy preferred being a quarterback guru, but he wasn’t very good at it.

Can Mike McCarthy’s new tactics help Dak Prescott and the Cowboys win the Super Bowl this year?

The loss in the playoffs to the San Francisco 49ers last season left question marks over the tactics and call-outs of the coaching team. Incidentally, they let go of offensive coordinator Kellen Moore, and McCarthy assumed his responsibilities. Later they appointed Brian Schottenheimer as the new offense coach.

McCarthy will likely be the one pulling the string during matches. Many believe he can turn Prescott into something like Green Bay Packers Super Bowl-winning quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

They have had a decent couple of seasons, reaching the divisional playoffs last year. Cowboys’ main goal should be going further this year, and Prescott is the key, even though few analysts who don’t have much faith in the 29-year-old would agree that Prescott is capable.

With Mike McCarthy on the helm, many believe there’s a chance, and Tom Pelissero echoed the same.

The Cowboys will kick off their 2023 campaign when they meet the New York Giants on September 10.
