Cowboys HC Mike McCarthy names one thing that will be most important for them in the playoffs and it’s not Dak Prescott

Dak Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys are currently preparing for their crucial week 18 game against the Washington Commanders, which is scheduled to take place this Sunday. The Cowboys could win the NFC East title with a victory against the Commanders, which will guarantee them at least one home playoff game.

Ahead of their decisive game, the Cowboys’ head coach Mike McCarthy addressed the media in the pre-game press conference and talked about what his team needs most heading into the postseason. Firstly, he talked about his team’s poor outing in the last few weeks.

As per Jon Machota:

I like where we're at. If you look at the way our season has gone, our football team needed adversity. I think we clearly have been put in those positions the last three weeks.

McCarthy said per The Athletic’s Jon Machota

And then, he went on to talk about what his team needed the most and unlike his owner Jerry Jones, Mike McCarthy didn’t mention quarterback Dak Prescott as the Cowboys’ most important need at the moment.

Obviously we would've liked to have won them all this past month, but I think clearly the adversity and the type of games we've been in will serve us well moving forward. ... I think being healthy is the most important statistic going into the playoffs.

McCarthy told the reporters

Of course, being healthy is the most important thing for any team now. Even the former Pro Bowl QB Dak Prescott could only do wonders if he’s fully healthy.

Jerry Jones believes Dak Prescott could lead Dallas to deep postseason run

The Dallas Cowboys have already punched their ticket to the postseason. Now, they are looking to win their NFC East division title by defeating the Commanders this weekend.

Amidst this situation, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones claims that his quarterback Dak Prescott could lead his team to a deep postseason run despite his recent struggles.

I think Dak is the best he’s been in his career. He’s the reason for my No. 1 highlight.

A healthy Dak Prescott is really the most important need for the Cowboys right now. Their entire season now depends on how well their quarterback can play during the postseason.

Prescott was having a great campaign and was even in the MVP conversation a few weeks ago. But, in the last few weeks, his production dipped. It is a concern for the Cowboys heading into the playoffs.

So Jones would be hoping his quarterback could find his old form back and help his team win the Super Bowl. They have been knocking on the doors of the playoff for a few seasons now and they would hope to get it done in the next few weeks.
