Dak Prescott on course to sign a MASSIVE $50,000,000 long-term contract with the Cowboys to cement himself as one of the highest paid players in NFL history

Prescott is only focused on his game and looking to stop throwing interceptions.

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott is due a new contract extension, and according to the Athletic’s Jeff Howe, the 30-year-old has had “an early discussion about a new deal.” While he did not mention that it’s imminent, he did reveal that it will not take much time when Jerry Jones ties down one of his favorite players for a long time.

“The Cowboys and Prescott have had early discussions about a new deal,” a source in the league told Jeff Howe. “It doesn’t sound like anything is imminent. But there’s obvious motivation.”

Dak Prescott signed a four-year, $160 million contract with the Dallas Cowboys in 2021. This means the two-time pro bowler currently earns around $40 million every year. He is slated to have a $59.4 million cap hit in 2024. Moreover, the Cowboys also have linebacker Micah Parsons‘ deadline on the horizon. They need to wrap up the QB contract before that.

“There’s a very real possibility the Cowboys will eventually roster a quarterback earning at least $40 million annually,” Howe added. Not only that, but wide receiver CeeDee Lamb is also in line for a new deal as his rookie contract will expire next year. (H/T: The Athletic)

Prescott still has two more seasons in his $160 million contract, and if he wants, he could leave and earn money somewhere else. However, last year’s Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year is only focused on the Cowboys.

“100% I’m excited, yeah, to be a Dallas Cowboy,” he told the Dallas Morning News, Calvin Watkins.“I Always dreamed of being here, and I don’t expect to play for any other team.”

Prescott is also not bothered by the contract talks. “When that time comes, it will happen,” he said. “I’m with Stephen [Jones] that it may just happen overnight.”

While some will point out that it won’t be the correct investment, citing the interceptions, it’s not like Prescott’s the only one who throws them. Take his predecessor, Tony Romo, who recorded 19 in 2012, and he’s not even close to the leader. Remember Richard Todd‘s 30 interceptions? Compared to Prescott, who only has 15, fans demand a change.

However, the longer the Dallas Cowboys take to give Dak Prescott a contract, the more and more rumors will start circling about a trade. But owner Jerry Jones may not leave someone he believes is a future Hall of Fame candidate.
