Eminem is one of the most successful rappers of all time. His breakout in 1999 was explosive, and his success in the early-2000s was unparalleled. However, it was never a secret that he had family issues. Despite this, the Detroit emcee always focused on his mother and daughter and did so to such an extent that many are still unaware he has a brother.
Eminem’s brother, Nate Mathers, is 14 years younger than him and isn actually closer in age to the musician’s daughter. Nonetheless, he still admired him enormously growing up and was inspired by him in many ways.
Earlier this year, Nate joined his niece, Eminem’s daughter Hailie, on her podcast, Just a Little Shady, to speak about their shared experience of watching Eminem battle with the challenges that come with fame. Nate got a front-row seat to his brother’s rise and admitted that it profoundly affected him.
When asked about his brother’s initial hostile reception, Nate explained, “Going off the lyrics and everything, I could see [why], but he was the best role model I could have had to help me be the dad that I am today.”
Although Nate was only 13 years old when his brother shot to fame, he knew what was happening. When Hailie asked if he was aware, Nate responded, “Yes, I started understanding a little more when reality would hit when I would start seeing [him on TV and going to shows and all the signatures and crazy people.”
As well as inspiring him to dye his hair and eyebrows blonde, his brother inspired Nate to make his own music. He began writing music at a young age, and when he was older, he began learning from Eminem himself. Nate explained to Hailie what Eminem taught him, “I had learned from your dad how to do music and how to write formulas compound syllables and tested it out in the beginning.”
He continued, “From there, I started looking around for beats and whatnot and got comfortable enough with my voice and writing skills that I started recording and getting a feel for how I would deliver songs and how that would formulate to where people would enjoy it.”
Under the moniker, Nate Kane, Eminem’s brother, has achieved little success in the music business and ceased making music in the mid-2010s. However, he did make sure to defend his brother against Machine Gun Kelly during their feud and even made a diss track entitled, ‘Shut The F*ck Up.’ However, the public has heard little from him over the years.
