“I’m happy to be a Titan!” Derrick Henry clears his position with Tennessee amid numerous trade rumors

This game was Henry’s 39th time rushing for 100 yards.

Lately, there’s been much talk about Derrick Henry possibly getting traded by the Tennessee Titans, particularly following Kevin Byard’s trade to the Eagles last week. As the internet buzzes with rumors about the Titans trading Henry before the Tuesday deadline, he reassured his commitment to the team.

Following the 28-23 win over the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday, in the postgame conversation with the media, the running back addressed an ESPN report regarding his trade deal. He said that the team does not plan to trade him, though they are listening to the coming offers.

Henry shared the speculations with Titans GM Ran Carthon and said:

Everything’s going in a positive direction. Coach (Mike Vrabel) said earlier this week we signed up for it. Sometimes the business side is not what you always want, but it’s a business. At the end of the day, I’m a Titan and I’m happy to be a Titan. I’ll do whatever I can to help this organization continue to win and keep going further and further and do what we can to possibly get a championship this year.

He explained that at the end of the day, it’s business, and he understands it.

The Titans drafted the star running back in 2016. He’s had an impressive career with three Pro Bowl appearances and the 2020 NFL Offensive Player of the Year title. Now, at 30 years old and in the final year of his contract, he’s likely to be a prime trade target.

Derrick Henry’s record-breaking game against the Atlanta Falcons

On Sunday during the Tennessee Titans’ 28-23 win over the Atlanta Falcons, Henry rushed for 101 yards. Keeping his contract situation aside, he was key for his side’s victory over the Falcons. So much so, that he could be in contention of getting voted as the Ground Player of the Week 8. Further, his game saw some record-breaking feats.

This game was his 39th time rushing for 100 yards, counting both the regular season and playoff games- 36 times rushing for 100 yards and 3 times respectively. This feat saw him surpass Eddie George, who had 38 such games. Subsequently, ranking Henry second in franchise history, just behind Earl Campbell, who holds the top spot with 40 such games.

Furthermore, Henry’s 36th regular-season 100-yard rushing game tied him with Eddie George and surpassed Chris Johnson’s mark of 35, securing the second-most in franchise history, again just behind Earl Campbell. Lastly, in 2023, this was his fourth game with at least 100 scrimmage yards, making it his 46th career game with such an accomplishment. (H/T: Tennessee Titans)
