The San Francisco 49ers beat the Pittsburgh Steeler 30-7 in their first game of the season.

The Dallas Cowboys made a massive statement against the New York Giants in their first game with a thumping 40-0 win. The Giants failed to score any points as the Cowboys’ defense balled out. It was a perfect game from start to finish for them. Another team that had a convincing win of their own was the San Francisco 49ers. They rolled over the Pittsburgh Steelers in a 30-7 win.

Former NFL player and current Fox Sports analyst Keyshawn Johnson felt like the Niners were a better team than the Cowboys, despite the Cowboys’ shutout win. It was a great defensive performance by the Cowboys but the offense did not have much to do in that game. QB Dak Prescott did not score a TD and the defense had two TDs. The Niners had a much more complete game than the Cowboys.

“When you look at the body of work in one week, I would say that the 49ers are slightly above the Dallas Cowboys.” Johnson said on the show. “They did travel all the way from San Francisco to Pittsburgh, and for a team [Pittsburgh Steelers] that many people thought at the beginning of the year they would come out with hair on fire. That didn’t happen. The defense shut them down.”

He further continued by saying, “The offensive side of the ball. Christian McCaffrey, Brock Purdy, [Brendan] Aiyuk and company, they lit it up on the offensive side of the ball. It just looks different than what we saw Dallas do on both sides of the ball against the Giants. For week 1, San Francisco is a better football team than the Cowboys.”

The Cowboys and the Niners are both expected to make a deep playoff run this year. They have stacked rosters and will look to reach the Super Bowl come February. To do so, they will have to go through the other team. The Niners and Cowboys met in the Divisional Round of the playoffs last year. The 49ers came out on top in that one. The Niners will face the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday whereas the Cowboys will take on the New York Jets.

Brock Purdy is a remarkable sports story. He was the last pick of the 2022 NFL draft, officially making him “Mr. Irrelevant.” After injuries to starting QB Trey Lance and backup QB Jimmy Garoppolo, Purdy was thrust onto the field in his rookie season. He helped the Niners reach the NFC Championship game. That helped him become the starting QB for the 49ers this season.

After recording a dominant win over the Pittsburgh Steelers in their opening game, the Niner will face the Los Angeles Rams in their next game. That game will be the first time a former no.1 overall pick, Rams’ QB Matthew Stafford, will face off against the last pick of a draft in Purdy. Stafford was drafted first overall by the Detroit Lions in the 2008 NFL draft.

The Rams won their opening game against the Seattle Seahawks as Stafford went for 334 passing yards. It will be a fascinating battle to see which QB comes out on top. The Rams and the Niners will play each other on Sunday at the SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles.
