“LeBron fans not gonna like this” – Patrick Mahomes compares himself to Stephen Curry leaving Bay Area fans in splits ahead of Super Bowl
Basketball requires more individual prowess than the NFL, so for Patrick Mahomes comparing himself with Stephen Curry cannot be justified.
It is not often that an NFL player compares himself to a basketball player. Even though many football players have basketball playing experience, comparing themselves with one of the greats isn’t common. So when NFL superstar Patrick Mahomes compared himself with Stephen Curry, it left basketball fans in splits. Especially Bay Area fans, who adore their basketball superstar, were not convinced.
Golden State Warriors superstar Stephen Curry has won 4 championships. Patrick Mahomes has won two. Speaking to the media at the NFL’s Super Bowl opening night, Mahomes was asked which basketball player he likens himself to. He replied;
If I played basketball, I’d be just like Stephen Curry.
The comparison from Mahomes warranted head-turning reactions from basketball fans. After all, Curry has built his reputation as one of the all-time greats. Mahomes has yet to reach that summit despite winning two Super Bowls in four years.
Stephen Curry was instrumental in building the Warriors dynasty. His elite shooting and clutch performances were the reason the Warriors broke the single-season win-loss record. Already, the all-time greatest 3-point scorer, Curry has consistently been the No. 1 scoring option for the Warriors. He has single-handedly won games for the Warriors throughout his career.

Patrick Mahomes on the other hand plays American football, a game that requires 53 players as a team. Even the starters amount to a total of 22 players, double that of an NBA team. And both sides have to do their part to win the game. Curry and other basketball players have to play at least 70% of the game to have a chance of winning. Mahomes does not even play half a game on average. Additionally, he has to depend on his other offensive starters to score.

The problem with the Kansas City Chiefs superstar comparing himself with Stephen Curry is that basketball fans also watch the NFL. They know that Mahomes has been helped in his legacy by several players, coaches, and the current situation of the league.
