Nick Wright slammed Jerry Jones after the latter reassigned Mike McCarthy as the Head Coach.

After the devastating loss against the Green Bay Packers, things have been falling apart in the camp of the Dallas Cowboys. After multiple criticisms of Dak Prescott and Mike McCarthy, the heat is now on the veteran owner Jerry Jones. Multiple analysts questioned his decision to retain the HC Mike McCarthy for the latter’s straight fifth season.

Among them, Nick Wright is one of the significant figures. From the sets of his show, First Things First, the analyst said:

I no longer believe Jerry Jones’ No. 1 goal is winning a Super Bowl. I believe Jerry Jones would like to win a Super Bowl, but I believe Jerry Jones’ number one goal is to be the face, the voice and have full control of the Dallas Cowboys.

After the blowout loss against the Packers, it was McCarthy who was subjected to the most number of criticism. Out McCarthy campaign hit the scenario as multiple analysts wanted him to be fired. The fans were also frustrated. McCarthy’s job was also under suspicion as Jones did not clear the air on whether he would retain the head coach. However, after the meeting with the HC, the veteran decided to hire him for his fifth season.

Under McCarthy, the Cowboys performed well in the regular season. They became the NFC West champion and finished the season with a 12-5 record. McCarthy holds a brilliant regular season record of 42-25 but had a poor display in the playoffs. Hence, reassigning him was a bad decision, believe a lot of analysts.

Nick Wright feels Jerry Jones did use his footballing brain to hire Mike McCarthy

Wright got frustrated with Jones after he hinted that reassigning McCarthy had no footballing interest. He said that McCarthy was neither in his prime nor held the statistics to be retained in his designation, while also hinting that there were a lot of available options.

Here is what Nick Wright had to say:

There is no other realistic explanation for [keeping McCarthy]. This is not a typical coaching market. This is a coaching market that has the greatest coach of all time [Belichick] available, that has a really good — in his coaching prime, if you will — coach in Mike Vrabel available, that has one of the only coaches we’ve ever seen succeed in the collegiate and pro level [Harbaugh] available.

Nick Wright saidMcCarthy started getting criticism during the regular season. His playcalling did not impress the fans. The Cowboys almost lost the game against the Lions despite leading the game because of his poor calling.

While reassigning McCarthy to his duties, Jones said that he believed the Cowboys would do good under Mike McCarthy. McCarthy also said that he knew how to win on the big stage.
