Patrick Mahomes breaks silence on chasing Tom Brady’s elite ‘7 rings’ record: “I’m not even close”

Patrick Mahomes will be the youngest quarterback to start four Super Bowls.

As the Kansas City Chiefs are preparing for their fourth Super Bowl appearance in the last five years, they are also striving to become the first team to win a Super Bowl ring back-to-back, since the New England Patriots record with Super Bowl XXXVIII and XXXIX in the early 2000s. Given that, there has been quite the whisper of Patrick Mahomes chasing after the NFL legend Tom Brady’s Super Bowl goal.

The reigning Super Bowl MVP finally clarified his stance on surpassing the Super Bowl rings by future Hall of Famer, on the opening night of Super Bowl LVIII, Monday.

Mahomes said when he was asked about being compared to Brady’s legacy:

I mean, I’m not even close to halfway, so I haven’t put a lot of thought into it. I mean, your goal is to be the best player that you can be. I know I’m blessed to be around a lot of great players around me. And so, right now, it’s doing whatever I can to beat a great 49ers team and try to get that third ring.

The Chiefs’ star quarterback stated that seven still seems like a long way for him and in the coming 15 years if he gets even close to that count, it would be a big accomplishment.

Though Mahomes isn’t close to the legacy established by the former NFL legendary quarterback, he sure seems to be on the right path. He has been honored with two Super Bowl and league MVP titles and has led his team to three Super Bowls in which he won two and lost one.

Patrick Mahomes aims to play as long as Tom Brady

The Chiefs’ quarterback and Brady’s emotions towards football do not seem to reflect much difference. Just like Brady, Mahomes also wishes to play in the NFL as long as he can. He said:

My hope is to take it year in and year out, but I want to play as long as they’ll let me play

He also highlighted how Brady retired at the age of 45 and some other athletes did the same. Mahomes is currently 28 years old and he plans to build his own legacy in the coming fifteen years.

As now the quarterback is preparing for his fourth Super Bowl appearance against the San Francisco 49ers, the 28-year-old will be the youngest starting quarterback to do so. He’s truly inspired to win his third Super Bowl, and duly mindful not to lose his second.
