Peter King, who retires after 44 years in sports industry, believes the Bears are going to trade the top pick in upcoming draft

Peter King officially announced his retirement at the age of 66, after giving 44 years to the sports industry.

After 27 years at NBC Sports writing columns under “Football Morning in America,” Peter King officially announced his retirement at the age of 66. This Monday, the NBC Sports columnist published his final edition bidding adios to the sports industry as a journalist after 44 remarkable years.

In his final note to his readers, titled: “It’s Time. Who’s Complaining? Not me,” King penned down some valuable insight ahead of the 2024 NFL offseason concerning the team having the leverage of the No. 1 draft pick– Chicago Bears.

The columnist wrote,

I suppose the #Bears are going to trade the top pick. I know nothing, but that seems to be the way the wind is blowing.

King appeared to sketch a scenario for his readers, where the Bears have traded their first pick not once but twice and ended up with the eighth and ninth selections in addition to two more second-round picks and a shinning compensation for the 2025 draft.

Securing the top pick from the 2024 NFL draft, the Bears were rumored to be eyeing USC’s star Caleb Williams and adding to their rebuilding roster for the next season. However, for that, they had a major decision to make: whether or not to give another chance to the Justin Fields.

Justin Fields’ Instagram drama fuels speculation about his future with the Bears

The Bears and Fields trade drama took a vibrant turn when fans observed a bizarre social media activity by the quarterback. The 24-year-old unfollowed his current franchise on Instagram, indirectly confirming a likely departure in the near future.

If the Bears go forward with drafting William, Fields would likely be released into free agency before it’s beginning on March 13. In such case scenarios, there have been speculations concerning Fields’ potential landing spot for the next season.

The oddsmakers predict the Atlanta Falcons have the highest odds of adding the young quarterback to their active roster as they are in need of a good quarterback and he grew up in Georgia. Fields finished the 2023 regular season recording 2,562 yards with 16 touchdown passes along with nine interceptions and a passer rating of 86.3.
