Richard Sherman calls Jerry Jones ‘lazy’ for not being active with the Cowboys’ trade market

Richard Sherman criticizes Cowboys GM Jerry Jones for not taking advantage of the trade deadline.

The NFL 2023 trade deadline is approaching. This has led teams to scramble to make significant moves to improve their rosters before the commencement of the second half of the season.

There is one team, however, that is not stressed about improving its chances of reaching the Super Bowl; it is the Dallas Cowboys. The team has yet to make any significant moves. Richard Sherman of Undisputed on FS1 called out owner and GM Jerry Jones for sitting idle and not putting in any effort to initiate trade talks.

The Cowboys have not had this good a squad in years, and despite their blowout loss to the 49ers and a surprising upset by the Arizona Cardinals, this team has serious potential. A championship team’s mentality is to constantly improve, which the Cowboys have not been doing.

You must think your roster is too good to get better. The differences between Championship teams and this team is that Championship teams always feel like they can get better.

Continuing his train of thoughts, he further added:

It seems lazy if you're not going to pick up the phone...if you don't pickup the phone, you'll never know if they're available...you sit stagnant and I'm sure that's frustrating for the fanbase.

He called Jerry Jones out for not trying to propose a trade to make roster improvements. He suggests that the team could have gotten Danielle Hunter, Davante Adams, or DeAndre Hopkins, but they did not because they never proposed any trade interests toward them.

Jerry Jones has been reluctant to make any significant trades before this week’s trade deadline

Jerry Jones does not initiate trade talks, the owner recently stated:

It will have to come our way. I don’t preclude it in any way, but it always does…The initiation of an opportunity to make a trade…has to start over on the other end. That’s not showing a lack of aggressiveness. It’s just how it starts.

With that being said, that’s a lot of faith that Mr. Jones has in lady luck.

Sherman cites the Philadelphia Eagles as an example of a team with a championship mentality. Sherman concluded:

You see the Eagles are all over the division, they’re out there exploring, you knew that Howie Rosman was looking for a safety for weeks, that wasn’t a surprise…he’s been saying it for weeks. I just don’t understand this from Jerry and this is maybe why Jerry shouldn’t be the GM. It’s almost like he is being too prideful.

The Legion of Boom corner cited the San Francisco 49ers as a team that went all-in during the trade deadline last year when they managed to get Christian McCaffrey, an acquisition that has greatly benefitted them. The Dallas Cowboys can make great improvements like the other teams but they refuse to take initiative.

The analyst believes that he should step down as GM, as he is not living up to the duties of one. The Cowboys are 4-2 this season and have shown immense potential so far. The team will continue its quest for a Super Bowl on Sunday when they take on the Los Angeles Rams.
