Robert Griffin III claims the Steelers have ROBBED the Bears with Justin Fields’ ‘cheap’ trade

Steelers offered a 2025 sixth-round draft pick for Justin Fields, which may turn to fourth-round pick if he plays 51% of his snaps in 2024.

Ever since it became clear that the Chicago Bears have the No. 1 pick in the upcoming NFL Draft, there has been a boatload of speculations on Justin Fields’ future. As many speculated, the franchise has finally traded him to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Interestingly, the Steelers have most recently signed the former Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson as the starting QB and traded former starter, Kenny Pickett to the Philadelphia Eagles. Highlighting Pickett’s trade, Robert Griffin III predicted that the Steelers now have a “perfect spot” for Fields, if the Bears decide to trade.

Although Griffin’s prediction came true, he didn’t like the deal offered by the Steelers to the Bears for Fields. As ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported, Pittsburgh offered a 2025 sixth-round draft pick for the quarterback, which may turn into a fourth-round pick if Fields plays 51% of his snaps next season.

Griffin wrote on X:

The Pittsburgh Steelers just robbed the Chicago Bears on the weekend in broad daylight. Getting Justin Fields in 2024, giving up ABSOLUTELY NOTHING in 2024 and only giving up a 2025 6th round pick that MIGHT turn into a 4th rounder. This is what we call BIG BANK take little bank.

This ultimate offseason move is Fields’ departure after three seasons with the Bears and ascertains Caleb Williams’ addition as the starting quarterback for the Bears in the upcoming season. Meanwhile, the nine-time Pro Bowler Wilson would become the starter for the Steelers and Fields would be his backup.

Steelers new strategy for the quarterback situation

The Bears drafted quarterback Fields with high expectations back in 2021, unfortunately, it didn’t work out as anyone hoped for. Now that he has been traded as a backup, there’s a highly unlikely chance that he will be given the starting job in the 2024 season.

The Steelers have finalized Wilson to be their starter, despite the controversy with the Broncos. For now, the Steelers have signed Fields for him to learn under the quarterback who has been selected to Pro Bowls nine times and won a Super Bowl ring.

However, it doesn’t mean Fields won’t see the football field in 2024, just that he is not expected to start in week 1 of the next season. The franchise has signed Wilson in a one-year contract without giving up a major cap space.
