Shannon Sharpe bluntly claims Brock Purdy is ‘not’ an elite QB for the 49ers amid sudden MVP talks around him

Brock Purdy was drafted in the seventh round of the 2022 NFL Draft.

Brock Purdy is balling this season. He has played fantastic for the San Francisco 49ers through five weeks and still hasn’t lost a regular-season game in his career. That is a mind-boggling statistic. He has started ten games in the league in two years, and he has won all those games. His only loss as a starter came against the Philadelphia Eagles last season in the NFC Championship game.

Purdy has thrown for 1,271 yards and nine touchdowns this season. He hasn’t thrown an interception yet through five weeks and had the best game of his young career against the Dallas Cowboys last Sunday. However, ESPN analyst and former NFL great Shannon Sharpe doesn’t consider Purdy an elite quarterback. Sharpe said, “He is a product of the system.”

“No, he’s not an elite quarterback. He’s a product of the system.” Sharpe said on the latest edition of ESPN’s First Take show. “I’m not so sure if we remove Deebo [Samuel], if we remove Kyle Shanahan, we remove [Brendon] Aiyuk, we would still see this Brock Purdy. He is a product of the system. That’s not to take away from what he’s doing.” Despite the take, Shannon Sharpe admitted that Purdy belonged in the conversations in the MVP race.

The Niners have a deep roster with a lot of great offensive weapons. Purdy has utilized weapons to the ‘T’ so far this season and will look to continue to do that in their upcoming games. The Niners will play the Cleveland Browns in their next game on Sunday.

Kyle Shanahan impressed by Brock Purdy’s consistency

Brock Purdy has played as one of the best QBs this season. He has consistently delivered in every game, and as a result of that, the San Francisco 49ers remain unbeaten to start the 2023 NFL season. Head coach Kyle Shanahan talked about his QB and was impressed by his consistency.

“I mean, just the consistency. He does it all the time, but just to continue doing it at such a high rate has been pretty unbelievable,” Shanahan told reporters on Monday. “Just how good he’s been, how many plays he’s made and how many plays he hasn’t made for the other team. So yeah, the consistency of that has been what’s been impressive the most.”

Purdy was the last pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, making him ‘Mr. Irrelevant.’ He has recorded a passer rating of at least 90 in every regular season game he has started in the NFL. Against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday, Purdy had 252 yards and four touchdowns against one of the best defenses in the league. He seems to be legit.
