Shannon Sharpe questions Bill Belichick’s legacy claiming Tom Brady was ‘largely’ the reason why Patriots won multiple Super Bowls
The Patriots have only managed to win one game out of four this season.
The New England Patriots, under the leadership of head coach Bill Belichick, did not have a great start to their 2023-24 NFL journey. They are down by a 1-3 win record. Their only win came against Zach Wilson‘s New York Jets. The Patriots performed terribly against the Dallas Cowboys. They gave away 38 points and scored only three. It was a 35-point deficit. The entire offense of the team choked and hardly created any threat.
After the shambolic defeat, analyst Shannon Sharpe raised his fingers at the legendary manager and his tactics. The analyst said that Bill Belichick’s legacy needs to be ended as he is not great without the legendary quarterback Tom Brady. He had a hint that the veteran coach is not at the same level without the assistance of the former quarterback. Sharpe also accused him of losing vital playoff games without Brady.
“I’ve been one of those guys who said that Coach Belichick deserved a lot more credit than Tom Brady. But I was foolish in my assessment. It’s becoming more and more apparent to me that Tom Brady was largely the reason why the Patriots won, because, you see, he goes to another team and they win,” he said on the latest episode of First Take.
“Coach Belichick has struggled to win without Tom Brady. What has Coach Belichick done without Brady? He keeps missing the playoffs,” Sharpe further added.

Last year, the Patriots, under the leadership of Mac Jones and Bill Belichick, failed to make it through to the playoffs. This year, they already are looking at a poor start. If they fail to make it through to the playoffs this season as well, then it will be the second straight season for them without the playoffs.
The success story of Bill Belichick and Tom Brady
The Patriots have won six Super Bowls in the years 2002 to 2019. They have also won 11 AFC division titles at the same time. The magical duo, of Brady and Belichick, helped them grab as many titles as possible. However, the golden run ended in the year of 2019.
That year, Brady moved to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and won the Super Bowl for them. However, the Patriots were unable to grab a single title since Brady left the team and failed to win a single playoff game in the past four years.

This is the sole reason why people now are questioning the legacy of the legendary coach. They are claiming that it was not Bill but Brady who assured success for the Patriots.
Well, the debate can wait, but the measurements that Bill has to take for his team this season. If the Patriots have to qualify, then Bill must have to think in different ways.
