Anne Hathaway is the epitome of beauty, but in the past the American actress apologized for her portrayal of limb disability in one of her movies that caught everyone’s attention and brought her a lot of criticism. In her two-decade long acting career, she has played a wide array of roles in films of different genres, and earned several awards for her powerful on-screen performances.

Anne Hathaway played the role of a cruel Witch in the film The Witches. The movie shows a group of mean wizards with three long fingers on each hand and as a result when the film was released, audiences felt the visual portrayal of the Witches was a direct insult to people with disabilities, which caused the hashtag #NotAWitch to trend on Twitter.

At the time, the film sparked a lot of criticism, and therefore actress took to Instagram and released a video with a long caption in which she apologized to her followers.

The Princess Diaries movie actress wrote, “I have recently learned that many people with limb differences, especially children, are in pain because of the portrayal of the Grand High Witch in The Witches.”

She continued, “As someone who really believes in inclusivity and really, really detests cruelty, I owe you all an apology for the pain caused. I am sorry. I’m sorry to kids with limb differences: now that I know better I promise I’ll do better. A

nd I owe a special apology to everyone who loves you as fiercely as I love my own kids: I’m sorry I let your family down.”


According to a source close to Warner Bros., the company was profoundly concerned to learn that their representation of the fictional characters in The Witches hurt people with disabilities and apologized for any harm caused.
