Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie share six children, including Zahara Marley Jolie-Pitt, the former couple’s eldest daughter, whom Jolie adopted in 2005 from Ethiopia.

In July 2022, the Oscar-winning actress shared that Zahara would be attending Spelman College.

She recently joined the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority at Spelman College, which is also the first historically Black sorority founded in 1908.

And she notably dropped her father’s surname during the sorority induction ceremony. In a short clip obtained by Essence, the 18-year-old Spellman undergraduate is introducing herself as Zahara Marley Jolie.

“My name is Zahara Marley Jolie. And [I] landed all the way from the Golden State in the city full of angels: Los Angeles, California,” she said, dancing alongside her sorority sisters.

While nothing is confirmed as of yet, netizens are curiously discussing the reason why she did not use her father’s surname during the introduction.

Born in Hawassa, Ethiopia, Zahara Marley Jolie-Pitt joined Angelina Jolie’s family after she adopted her in 2005 during a trip to Africa with her son Maddox. The actress returned to make the adoption official with her ex-husband, Brad Pitt.

Upon returning from Ethiopia, she was treated for a salmonella infection in New York and the Eternals star spoke fondly of her son Maddox’s love for Zahara. She has traveled around the world with her family and launched her jewelry line at the age of 14.

Her jewelry line’s proceeds supported a Los Angeles-based organization, House of Ruth Shelters, that provides housing for battered women and children. Her mother praised Zahara Jolie Pitt, and called her “an extraordinary African woman.”

Zahara recently pledged to Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority. She has also joined in her mother’s humanitarian efforts.
